Syed Tariq Yaqoob Rizvi is a Pakistani politician who was a Member of the Provincial Assembly of the Punjab, from May 2013 to May 2018. He is among the most well-known politicians in the District of Mandi Bahauddin and comes from an influential political family; the son of Pir Syed Mohammad Yaqoob Shah, a renowned spiritual leader, religious scholar and Former Member of the Provincial Assembly and the younger brother of Pir Syed Muhammad Binyamin Rizvi, who was the Minister of Social Welfare, Women Development and Bait-ul-Maal, alongisde the Vice President of Pakistan Muslim League (N) Punjab.

Early life and education

Syed Tariq Yaqoob Rizvi was born on December 1st, 1968 in Phalia. [1] He graduated in 1988 from Forman Christian College and earned a degree in Bachelor of Arts. [1]

Political career

He was elected to the Provincial Assembly of the Punjab as a candidate of Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) from Constituency PP-117 (Mandi Bahauddin-II) in 2013 Pakistani general election.

During his tenure, Syed Tariq Yaqoob Rizvi instituted various projects & aided in changing the landscape of the city of Phalia. Among his biggest projects; Rizvi established the first ever Maternity Hospital in Phalia alongside Rescue 1122 emergency services. He also inaugurated the first ever floodlight cricket stadium in the city which is named after his late father, Pir Syed Mohammad Yaqoob Shah. The installment of Pavers (flooring) throughout Phalia and the neighboring villages to ensure a comfortable lifestyle for the residents was also set in motion. A large number of schools got upgraded in his tenure and were provided with supplemental facilities. Rizvi also established six carpeted roads in his constituency. [2] [3]

On 24 June 2004, Pir Binyamin Rizvi was brutally murdered near his residence in Lahore.

Pir Syed Mohammad Yaqoob Shah was a Pakistani Member of Punjab Provincial Assembly and religious leader. He died on 31 August 1991, after having been elected Member of Provincial Assembly (MPA) in the 1990 Pakistani general election. His son, Pir Syed Muhammad Binyamin Rizvi, was elected in the by-elections held to fill the vacant seat.

Asif Bashir Bhagat was born in Bhagat village, Tehsil Phalia, in Mandi Bahauddin, Punjab, Pakistan. He was elected as Member Provincial Assembly of the Punjab in the 2008 general elections against PML-N candidate Pir Syed Tariq Yaqoob Rizvi and PML-Q's candidate Basma Riaz Choudhry from the Constituency PP-117 and served as chairman Standing Committee on Sports.

Basma Riaz Choudhry also spelt Baasima is a Member of the Provincial Assembly (MPA) of Punjab. She is the daughter of Chaudhry Riaz Asghar,. The first time she was elected as an MPA was in the by-election in 2005. She took part in the 2008 general elections from the PP-117 constituency as a candidate of Pakistan Muslim League (Q), but was defeated by the PPPP candidate Asif Bashir Bhagat. Then, she returned to Punjab Assembly in the 2013 general elections but was defeated by the PMLN candidate Syed Tariq Yaqoob Rizvi. She was selected to be a part of the seats reserved for women in 2013 and 2018.
