Sylvia Nomatamsanqa Sigcau (born 3 November 1946) [1] is a South African politician who was a Member of the National Assembly for a single term from 2004 to 2009. A member of the United Democratic Movement (UDM), [2] she was one of the party's three representatives in the Eastern Cape caucus of the National Assembly. [1]
In the 2009 general election, Sigcau was nominated to stand for re-election, [3] but she was not ranked high enough on the UDM's party list to gain a seat.

The constituency was established in 1994 when the National Assembly was established by the Interim Constitution following the end of Apartheid. It is conterminous with the province of Eastern Cape. At the 2019 general election it had 3,363,161 registered electors.

The constituency currently elects 19 of the 400 members of the National Assembly using the closed party-list proportional representation electoral system. At the 2019 general election it had 2,608,460 registered electors.
