T. K. Waters (born December 8, 1970) is an American politician and former police officer serving as the Jacksonville, Duval County, Florida sheriff since 2022.
Waters was born at the William Beaumont Army Medical Center at Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas. [1] His father served in the United States Army as a Command Sergeant Major, so he grew up as a Military brat with his family stationed at several bases. After graduating from the Würzburg American High School in Germany, he earned a Bachelor of Science from Liberty University. He majored in Interdisciplinary Studies; Homeland security was his minor. [2] Due to his father's service, Waters planned to join the Marines but changed his mind when a cousin was killed in 1990 during a robbery in the Ramona neighborhood of Jacksonville. [3]
Waters joined the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office in 1991 as a corrections officer. He graduated from the Police academy in 1993 and became a patrol officer. [2] [4] [3] [1]

Waters retired from JSO with over 30 years of service in July 2022 in order to run for Duval County Sheriff. [2]
Mike Williams served as Jacksonville sheriff from 2015 until his retirement in June 2022 after local news reported that Williams no longer resided in Duval County as required by city charter. Florida Governor DeSantis appointed undersheriff Pat Ivey as interim sheriff until a special election could be held. [5] Ivey declined to be a candidate in the election and no one received more than 50% of the vote, so a runoff was held coinciding with the regularly scheduled elections in Florida. T.K. Waters ultimately won the race with 55% of the vote compared to Lakesha Burton's 45%. [6] Waters was sworn in on Sunday, November 20, 2022. [2] Sheriff Williams' original term ended in 2023 and Waters was unopposed in the spring 2023 election. [7]
Waters married his wife, Robin Brown, in 1998. She works at the State Attorney’s Office as an investigator after retiring from JSO as a Detective. The couple have three children: Kevin, Jourdan and Tommy, who passed away in 2018. [2] [8] The family are members at Bible Believers Baptist Church in Mandarin. [1]

Nathaniel Glover Jr., is an American former college administrator and former police officer and sheriff. Glover is considered a pioneer in leadership in Jacksonville, Florida. He was the first African American elected sheriff in Florida since the end of the Reconstruction. He was a mayoral candidate and served as the President of Edward Waters University, Florida's first institution established for the education of African-Americans, from 2010 to 2018. Previously he was the Sheriff of Jacksonville from 1995 to 2003, after serving in the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office since 1966. He was succeeded by John Rutherford.

The Brenton Butler case was a murder case in Jacksonville, Florida. During the investigation of a shooting death outside a motel in 2000, police arrested 15-year-old Brenton Butler and charged him with the murder. Butler subsequently confessed to the crime, and the case went to trial. However, during the trial he testified that he had been brutalized into his confession, and he was acquitted. The case gained significant notice in the media, and became the subject of an award-winning documentary, Murder on a Sunday Morning.

The 2023 Jacksonville mayoral election was held on March 21, 2023, with a runoff held on May 16. Incumbent Republican mayor Lenny Curry was term-limited and could not seek a third term in office. Seven candidates filed to run, including four Republicans, two Democrats, and an independent. Jacksonville mayoral elections use a blanket primary system where all candidates, regardless of party affiliation, appear on the same ballot.

Brittany Chrishawn Moore, better known as Brittany Chrishawn, is a Jamaican-American film producer, musical artist, and police brutality survivor who was brutalized by the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office (JSO) police after asking a trespassing officer to leave her property. She gained public support after the release and examination of body camera footage of her unjust arrest and mistreatment by five Jacksonville, Florida police officers.
On August 26, 2023, three people were fatally shot by a gunman in a mass shooting at a Dollar General store in Jacksonville, Florida. Authorities identified 21-year-old male Ryan Christopher Palmeter as the gunman. Palmeter shot and killed himself after he barricaded himself in an office. The incident has been described as a terrorist attack and racially motivated, and is currently under investigation as a hate crime.
Kent Stermon (1972—2022) was a Florida businessman and Republican activist. He was a political associate and friend of Ron DeSantis, who appointed Stermon to the Florida Board of Governors in 2019. He died by suicide following sexual misconduct allegations.
