The Ten Accomplished Youth Organizations (TAYO) Awards is the sole award-giving program that "recognizes and supports the outstanding contributions of youth organizations" in the Philippines. [3] It is organized and presented annually by the Ten Accomplished Youth Organizations (TAYO) Awards Foundation since 2012.

Contents

The TAYO Awards was one of the flagship programs of the National Youth Commission until 2019. [4] It is the most prestigious award given to youth groups in the Philippines. [5]

Background

The TAYO Awards was founded by Senator Francis Pangilinan in partnership with the then National Youth Commission Chairperson Bam Aquino in 2002. [6] Since its establishment, the program has accommodated at least 250 nominations annually. [7] Throughout the years, it has also gathered corporate sponsors to give out special awards to its nominees. [5]

The TAYO Awards was one of the flagship programs of the National Youth Commission until 2019 [4] under Ronald Cardema's term as the Commission's Chairperson and CEO. Cardema's term in 2019, the National Youth Commission stopped sponsoring the award-giving program to establish the President Rodrigo Roa Duterte Youth Leadership Awards [8] which eventually did not materialize. [8]

Process

Criteria

The program is open to clubs, groups, organizations, and societies whose membership and leadership are composed of at least five (5) members whose ages are 30 years old and below. The criteria for judging are as follows: [9]

  1. The project’s impact on its stakeholders
  2. The project’s means of harnessing the spirit of volunteerism
  3. The project’s creativity and innovation
  4. The project’s sustainability;
  5. The project’s effective use of resources

Categories

Participating organizations compete per category and organizations can submit multiple entries to different categories provided that each project is different. Only the four best organizations per category will be invited to the second phase of the program. The categories are:

Rewards

The program's winners receive a specially commissioned trophy sculpted by Toym De Leon Imao [10] and a grant of Php 50,000 intended to fund new projects or to continue long-term programs. Special tokens are also given by the program's partners which, in the past years, have included Coca-Cola Philippines, San Miguel Corporation, Jollibee Foods Corporation, Lenovo, and PLDT-Smart. The Foundation opened its 21st search per the February 19 to March 17, 2024 application for accomplished and proactive youth groups with a theme of "makabayani". [18]

The University of the Philippines Los Baños College of Forestry and Natural Resources is one of the 11 degree-granting units of the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB). The College of Development Communication (CDC) is the ninth college established under the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB). It is recognized worldwide as a pioneer of development communication as an academic field. It offered the Philippines' first communication course in 1960, as a major under the Bachelor of Science in Agriculture curriculum. In 1974, it became the first to offer academic degree programs in development communication. To date, it is the only academic institution in the world offering degree programs in development communication at the bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degree levels. In 1999, the College was named as one of two national centers of excellence in communication by the Philippines' Commission on Higher Education CHED. The College was awarded a KBP Golden Dove Award for best AM station in 1994 and a Catholic Mass Media Award for Best Educational Radio Program in 2010. In December 2012, the College of Development Communication once again became a Center of Excellence for Development Communication.

The Alliance of Young Nurse Leaders and Advocates, also known as AYNLA, is a professional organization in the Philippines advocating for the achievement of the United Nations Millennium Development Goals (now Sustainable Development Goals), Universal Health Care, and advancement of nurses' rights and welfare. It was established in the year 2009 and registered with the Philippine Securities and Exchange Commission in 2010. The headquarters of the organization is currently located at Villaruel Street, in Pasay.

The Duterte Youth, officially the Duty to Energize the Republic through the Enlightenment of the Youth Sectoral Party-list Organization, is a Right-wing youth organization which supports the administration of 16th Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte. They also campaigned to win a seat in the House of Representatives through party-list representation in the 2019 elections where they secured a single seat. However the group was subject of a controversy due to its nominees including Ronald Cardema not being part of the youth sector themselves.

The company was headquartered at the Asian Institute of Management in Makati City, Philippines.

Leticia "Letty" E. Afuang is a Filipina biologist and wildlife conservationist currently working as a professor under the Animal Biology Division of the Institute of Biological Sciences (IBS) at the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB), located in the Philippine province of Laguna. She is also one of the main curators for the Zoological and Wildlife Collection at the UPLB Museum of Natural History. While known as the "Snake Lady," her research as a herpetologist also focuses on other reptiles, amphibians and a wide array of herpetofauna across the Philippine islands. As an advocate for environmental sustainability, she has founded multiple organizations such as the Mindoro Biodiversity Conservation Foundation and the Biodiversity Conservation Society of the Philippines.
