TID is a Bongo Flava musician from Tanzania, whose real name is Khalid Mohamed (born 1981 in Dar es Salaam). TID is an acronym of Top in Dar, in which "Dar" refers to Dar es Salaam, his hometown. He is best known for his hits "kiuno" "Nyota yako" "We dada" "Zeze" and "Siamini". [1]
He started singing in 1994 with a group known as Black Gangsters. He turned solo five years later. At the age of 21 he signed with Poa Records. His first single "Mrembo" was released in March 2002. He did also act the main role on the film "Girlfriend", a film about the Bongo Flava scene. [2]
He has toured in East African countries, United Kingdom and United States. [2] He performs with a live band called Top Band. [3]
His hit "Zeze" is included in the Global Soul compilation by Putumayo World Music. [4]
In 2008 he was sentenced for one year in prison for an assault. [1] He was released four months later. [5]
In May 2010, it was reported that he was assaulted by professional basketball player Hasheem Thabeet in a night club in Tanzania. Thabeet, through his agent, has denied being involved with any altercation that night although he was present at the night club. [6]
As it is in other countries, the music in Tanzania is constantly undergoing changes, and varies by location, people, settings and occasion. The five music genres in Tanzania, as defined by BASATA are, ngoma, dansi, kwaya, and taarab, with bongo flava being added in 2001. Singeli has since the mid-2000s been an unofficial music of uswahilini, unplanned communities in Dar es Salaam, and is the newest mainstream genre since 2020.
Bongo Flava is a nickname for Tanzanian music. The genre developed in the 1990s, mainly as a derivative of American hip hop and traditional Tanzanian styles such as taarab and dansi. Lyrics are usually in Swahili or English.

It is sometimes called Swahili jazz because most dansi lyrics are in Swahili, and "jazz" is an umbrella term used in Central and Eastern Africa to refer to soukous, highlife, and other dance music and big band genres. Muziki wa dansi can also be referred to as Tanzanian rumba, as "african rumba" is another name for soukous.

The 12th edition of the Tanzania Music Awards took place at the Diamond Jubilee Hall in Dar es Salaam, on Saturday March 26, 2011. Bongo Flava artist 20 Percent was the big winner of the night with five trophies out of seven nominations. The artist himself was not present and he was represented by his producer Man Water. Winner Lady Jaydee was also absent during the Award ceremony and a fan collected the two awards on her behalf. The artist later stated she had not received an invitation for the event. Singer Diamond Platnumz, who won three awards in the 2010 Tanzania Music Awards was nominated in four categories, although he was among those who left empty-handed.

Mbosso is known for his songs "Nadekezwa" and "Hodari" which won Video of the Year at HiPipo Awards 2019. Mbosso released his debut studio album, Definition of Love, in March 2021.
