Tafua Maluelue Tafua (also known as Michael Tafua) is a Samoan politician and former member of the Legislative Assembly of Samoa. He is a member of the Human Rights Protection Party.
Tafua moved to New Zealand in 1974,where he became an officer in the New Zealand Police. [1] While working as a police officer he participated in the Dawn Raids aimed at deporting Pasifika overstayers. [2] He served as a police officer for 23 years,resigning in 1996 in protest at the low sentence given to the drunk-driver who had killed his son. [3]
In 1992 he was elected to the Birkenhead-Northcote Community Board. In 1998 he was elected to the North Shore City Council. [1] He was re-elected to the council in the 2001 local body elections [4] and again in 2004. [5]
In 2004 he was appointed paramount chief of the village of Saleaaumua in the Atua District. [1] He resigned from the council in August 2007. [6]
After returning to Samoa he served as a member of the Public Service Commission from 2007 until 2010. [7] [8] He was first elected to the Legislative Assembly of Samoa in the 2011 election and appointed Associate Minister to the Prime Minister. In 2013 he called for New Zealand to change its immigration policy and make it easier for Samoans to work in New Zealand. [9] He later attended the 2013 Pacific Parliamentary Forum in New Zealand. He was re-elected in the 2016 election but not reappointed as an Associate Minister. [11] He lost his seat in the 2021 election. During an election petition over his loss,he admitted to past electoral corruption. [12] The court hearing the petition dismissed the five charges of bribery levelled against him. [13]
Tafua is the older brother of Manu Samoa coach Titimaea Tafua. [14]

Fiame Mataʻafa Faumuina Mulinuʻu II was a Western Samoan paramount chief and politician. The holder of the Mataʻafa title,one of the four main Samoan chieftainships,he became the first prime minister of Western Samoa in 1959,serving until 1970. He held the position again from 1973 until his death in 1975.
Ātua is an ancient political district of Samoa,consisting of most of the eastern section of Upolu and the island Tutuila. Ātua is ruled by the Tui Ātua together with the group of six senior orators of Lufilufi and 13 senior matai from throughout Ātua,comprising the Fale Ātua. The O le Ao Mamalu o le Malo is the Head of State of Samoa. The position is described in Part III of the 1960 Samoan constitution. At the time the constitution was adopted,it was anticipated that future heads of state would be chosen from among the four Tama a 'Aiga "matai" paramount chiefs in line with customary protocol. This is not a constitutional requirement,so Samoa can be considered a parliamentary republic rather than a constitutional monarchy. The government Press Secretariat describes Head of State as a "ceremonial president". The holder is given the formal style of Highness,as are the heads of the four paramount chiefly dynasties.
George Sydney Wood is a former mayor of North Shore City and a former Auckland Councillor. He was the only North Shore City mayor to be elected for three terms and later represented North Shore ward on the Auckland Council between 2010 and 2016. Peseta Samuelu Masunu "Sam" Lotu-Iiga is a former member of the New Zealand Parliament for the Maungakiekie electorate,having been elected in the 2008 election. Lotu-Iiga was one of two National Party Pacific Island MPs. Lotu-Iiga holds the Samoan high chiefly title of Peseta.
