Tamlaght Finlagan Monastery was an early religious settlement in Tamlaght Finlagan, Ballykelly, County Londonderry, Northern Ireland. [1]
The monastery was founded in 585 AD. The name of the monastery means "The plague monument of St. Findluganus". Findluganus was an associate of St. Columba, who attended the Drumceatt Synod of 574 AD. The abbey became a parish church and is mentioned in some papal paperwork in 1291. However, by 1622 the church was in ruins, which can still be seen today. [2]
Columba or Colmcille was an Irish abbot and missionary evangelist credited with spreading Christianity in what is today Scotland at the start of the Hiberno-Scottish mission. He founded the important abbey on Iona, which became a dominant religious and political institution in the region for centuries. He is the patron saint of Derry. He was highly regarded by both the Gaels of Dál Riata and the Picts, and is remembered today as a Catholic saint and one of the Twelve Apostles of Ireland.

Doe Castle, or Caisleán na dTuath, near Creeslough, County Donegal, was the historical stronghold of Clan tSuibhne, with architectural parallels to the Scottish tower house. Built in the early 15th century, it is one of the better fortalices in the north-west of Ireland.
