Tapan Das (born January 11 1962) is an Indian film actor, director and story writer in Assamese cinema and mobile theatre. He also performs in stage plays.

Early life

Das was born on January 11 1962 in Guwahati. He has been associated with acting since early 80s when he was in high school. His father was an officer at PWD department in Assam, was frequently transferred from one place to another. So he had studied in different schools of Assam. He studied in the prestigious Assam Engineering College, as said himself in an Interview. He became a popular actor by doing various stage plays in Guwahati.

Career

Das made his debut in Assamese film through Pulak Gogoi's Sendoor in 1984. Till now he has acted in more than 20 Assamese films. Apart from films, Das has been also involved in mobile theatres (Bhramyaman). He has acted in Kohinoor , Bordoisila, Shakuntala Theatre, Rajtilak Theatre and Theatre Surjya. He also did direction in the above theatres and Hengool Theatre. In 2011, he signed in Rajtilak Theatre. [1] After that he has been associated with Theatre Surjya .

The Theatre Surjya is a new mobile theatre group of the North-Eastern Indian state of Assam, founded by Munindra Barman in 2015. It was launched in a big way in 2015-16 season. The main actors which were signed for the 2015-16 season are Tapan Das, Chinmoy Kotoky, Rajkumar, Devismita and Bhranti Medhi. For 2016-17 season famous actor Jatin Bora was signed by the theatre. Roopkar was the first Assamese language, tabloid-sized magazine about Assamese cinema, theater and culture. Established in 1974, the magazine was founded and edited by journalist and writer Pabitra Kumar Deka. Advisers of the magazine were singer & composer Bhupen Hazarika and writer Nirode Choudhury.

Utpal Das is an Assamese film actor. His debut Assamese feature film was Dhon Kuberor Dhon in 2009 while his acting debut was through VCD film Ringa Ringa Mon in 2004.

Ravi Sarma is an Indian actor who works in the Assamese cinema. He has starred in films like Hiya Diya Niya, Tumi Aahibaane, Iman Morom Kiyo Lage, Aami Asomiya, Sri Raghupati etc.

Boloram Das (Balram) is an Indian actor who has appeared in Hindi, English and Assamese films. He is best known for his roles in Badlapur Boys, Gabbar is Back and High Jack.

Surjya Kanta Hazarika is an Assamese litterateur, an eminent scholar, author, publisher, playwright, lyricist, composer, cultural activist, feature film and documentary maker, social worker and philanthropist. Hazarika is a recipient of the Padma Shri Award in 2008 for his contribution to Literature & Education. He is the current president of Asam Sahitya Sabha.
