Tarapada Basu is an Indian journalist and a former president of the Indian Journalists Association of London. [1] Basu, formerly with the now defunct Hindustan Standard of the Ananda Bazaar Patrika Group of Kolkata, founded the India Weekly [2] from London in the 60s,[ citation needed ] operating out of the attic of his London office with two staff.[ citation needed ] He was honoured by the Government of India in 1969, with the Padma Shri, the fourth highest Indian civilian award. Sucheta Dalal is an Indian business journalist and author. She has been a journalist for over two decades and was awarded a Padma Shri for journalism in 2006. She was the Financial Editor for the Times of India until 1998 when she joined the Indian Express group as a Consulting Editor, leaving in 2008. She is known for exposing the 1992 stock market scam propagated by Harshad Mehta.
Kaushik Basu is an Indian economist who was Chief Economist of the World Bank from 2012 to 2016 and Chief Economic Adviser to the Government of India from 2009 to 2012. He is the C. Marks Professor of International Studies and Professor of Economics at Cornell University, and academic advisory board member of upcoming Plaksha University. He began a three-year term as President of the International Economic Association in June 2017. From 2009 to 2012, during the United Progressive Alliance's second term, Basu served as the Chief Economic Adviser to the Government of India. Basu is winner of the Humboldt Research Award 2021.
Amitabh Mattoo is one of India's leading thinkers and writers on Modern and Contemporary History, Political science, International relations. He was awarded Padma Shri by the Government of India in 2009. He is Dean of the School of International Studies, Chair & professor at Jawaharlal Nehru University and honorary professor of international relations at the University of Melbourne. Until 19 June 2018, he served as Advisor to the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, with the status of a Cabinet Minister. Mattoo is a member of the Academic Advisory Board of the German Institute for Global and Area Studies and was recently elected unanimously as its Deputy Chair. He was the founding CEO of the Australia India Institute at the University of Melbourne and served as chairman of the governing board of Miranda House, University of Delhi, the highest-ranked women's college in India, and served as Chair of Kirori Mal College earlier He has also been a member of the Lancet Commission on Adolescent Health and Wellbeing. In 2002, he was the youngest person to be appointed as vice chancellor of a public university in independent India. Mattoo's advice on policy matters has been sought across political parties and across governments, including by Prime Ministers Atal Behari Vajpayee and Dr Manmohan Singh. Following the abrogation of Article 370 of the Constitution of India, he has offered a political roadmap for securing the future of Jammu and Kashmir. He has been a persistent advocate of multiculturalism and of reconciliation between Kashmiri Pandits and Kashmiri Muslims.
Ashok Malik is Partner and Chair of the India Practice at The Asia Group, a business and strategic advisor firm headquartered in Washington, DC. He is former policy advisor/additional secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs, government of India, having served in that position from October 2019 to August 2022. While in that role, he was the highest ranked non-career civil servant in the Ministry. He was also a member of prestigious Padma Award committee 2023.
Sekhar Basu was an Indian nuclear scientist who served as the chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission and Secretary to the Government of India, Department of Atomic Energy (DAE). He also served as the Director of Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), the Project Director of Nuclear Submarine Program, and later as the Chief Executive of the Nuclear Recycle Board at Bhabha Atomic Research Center. He was a recipient of India's fourth highest civilian honor Padma Shri in 2014.

Avadhanam Sita Raman was an Indian writer and journalist and a former editor of the Illustrated Weekly of India. Born on 9 April 1919 at Proddatur in Kadapa district in the South Indian state of Andhra Pradesh, he secured his master's degree in economics from the Andhra University College of Arts and Commerce, Waltair. He started his career in 1936 as a writer and journalist with freelance contributions to English and Telugu publications such as Triveni, a literary and cultural quarterly. Later, in 1943, he joined the Hindustan Times in the capacity of a sub editor, moved on to publications such as The Statesman and The Times of India before joining the Illustrated Weekly of India in 1953, and rose to the rank of Editor, the first Indian editor of the weekly. He also worked as an art consultant to The Studio, an arts magazine published from London. At the end of the seventies, he joined Swarajya, a Madras-based weekly magazine.
Vachnesh Tripathi born in 1920 is an Indian writer, journalist and a former editor of Panchjanya, a weekly news magazine published by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. A former president of the Chandra Shekhar Azad Janmashatabdi Samaroh Samiti, Tripathi has authored several books. He was honored by the Government of India, in 2001, with the fourth highest Indian civilian award of Padma Shri. He died on 30 November 2006 in Lucknow.
Rajan Devadas (1921-2014) was an Indian American photojournalist and Gandhian, known for his visual coverage of India–United States relations for over 50 years. He was the first accredited White House photographer of Indian origin. Devadas was honored by the Government of India, in 2002, with the fourth highest Indian civilian award of Padma Shri.
Meetha Lal Mehta was an Indian civil servant, a former Chief Secretary to the Government of Rajasthan and the founder chairman of Rajasthan Mission on Livelihoods (RMoL), a joint initiative by the Government of Rajasthan and UNDP for upgrading the livelihoods of the poorer sections of the people of the state. The Government of India honoured him in 2015 with the award of Padma Shri, the fourth highest Indian civilian award.
Kalyan Singh Gupta (1923–2002) was an Indian independence activist and social worker. He was the co-founder of the Lok Kalyan Samiti, a non-governmental organization based in the National Capital Region, together with Sucheta Kripalani in 1952.
Ajit Kumar Basu (1912–1986) was an Indian cardiac surgeon. He was a recipient of Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize, the highest Indian science award in 1967. He was honoured by the Government of India in 1970 with the Padma Shri, the fourth highest Indian civilian award. He qualified for his FRCS in 1946. He was the first Indian to be appointed examiner of the Royal College and served as its Hunterian Professor.
Rani Lila Ramkumar Bhargava was an Indian freedom fighter, social worker, educationist and a former leader of the Indian National Congress. She was an associate of Indian prime minister, Indira Gandhi and was married into the family of Munshi Nawal Kishore, the founder of reportedly the oldest printing press in Asia, Nawal Kishore Press, to Munshi Ramkumar Bhargava, a fourth generation member of the family and the holder of the title of Raja from Lord Wavell, then Viceroy of India,
Kanta Saroop Krishen is an Indian social worker and one of the founders of the Blood Bank Society, Chandigarh and the Indian Society of Blood transfusion and Immunohaematology. She is known to have worked for spreading the message of voluntary blood donation in India and is a recipient of the fourth highest Indian civilian award of Padma Shri for the year 1972 from the Government of India.
Mani Kumar Chetri is an Indian cardiologist, a former director of West Bengal State Health Services and a former director of the IPGMER and SSKM Hospital, Kolkata. He is an elected fellow of the National Academy of Medical Sciences and a recipient of the fourth highest Indian civilian award of Padma Shri from the Government of India in 1974.
Ishrat Ali Siddiqui (1919-2014) was an Indian gandhian, poet of Urdu literature and a former editor of the Urdu daily, Quami Awaz. He was known for his protest against the press censorship imposed by the then prime minister of India, Indira Gandhi in the mid 1970s. The Government of India awarded him the fourth highest Indian civilian award of Padma Shri in 1974.

Ganpatrao Govindrao Jadhav was an Indian freedom activist, journalist and writer. He was the founder of Pudhari, a Marathi daily founded in 1937. The Government of India awarded him the fourth-highest Indian civilian honour of Padma Shri in 1984 and issued a commemorative postage stamp with his image on 12 November 2009.
Satish Chandra Kakati was an Indian journalist, writer, the editor of The Assam Tribune, an Assam based English-language daily, and one of the founders of Assam Bani, a vernacular weekly started in 1955 by The Assam Tribune group. He was the vice president of the Editors' Guild of India and authored seven books in Assamese and English. A 2005 recipient of the Kanaklata Barua and Mukunda Kakati Memorial Award, Kakati was awarded the fourth highest civilian award of the Padma Shri by the Government of India in 1991.
Suresh Kumar Neotia was an Indian industrialist, entrepreneur, art collector, philanthropist and the co-founder of Ambuja Cements and associated companies. He was the chairman of the Group till 2009 when he relinquished the position in favor of his co-founder, Narotam Sekhsaria, and remained as the Chairman Emeritus of the Group until his death. He was a recipient of Harvard Business School - Economic Times Award and was involved in many social activities which included the promotion of cultural organizations such as Anamika Kala Sangam and Padatik. The Government of India awarded him the third highest civilian honour of the Padma Bhushan, in 2008, for his contributions to trade and industry.
