Tarini Choudhury Govt. Girls H.S. & M.P. School, also known as Tarini Charan Girls' Higher Secondary School, is a public school located in Guwahati, Assam, India. [1] [2] It is named after educationist Tarini Charan Choudhury. [3]

History

The Tarini Charan Girls school was founded in the 1950s and was initially located in the Uzanbazar area of Guwahati. [5] It subsequently shifted to the present site located at the Guwahati club. [6] In December 1963 the Government decided to take over the school, which had previously been government-aided. [7]

The previous principal of the school was Haramohan Dev Goswami. [8] As of 2018, the school has had no principal or vice-principal in post for five years, and twenty-five staff vacancies in total, which has "crippled" the school and pupils' results and the number who are able to take science subjects. [9]

Bhabananda Deka Indian writer

Prof Bhabananda Deka was a pioneer Assam economist and author who conducted novel research on the economy of the far eastern part of India. He was also a leading Indian-Assamese litterateur of the famed 'Awahon-Ramdhenu Era' of Assamese literature during the mid-20th century. He was the author of a total of 115 English and Assamese books including textbooks on a range of fifteen subjects including economics, ancient Assamese literature, philosophy, education, religion, mythology, archaeology, tribal study, poetry, drama, memoirs, civics, political science, biographies; he also edited books and journals. He also authored a variety of research papers and articles about the state of Assam, a state in the north-eastern part of India. He pioneered the writing of books on Economics in Assamese. His Assamese book Axomor Arthaneeti was the first ever research-based comprehensive book on Assam Economics, which was published for the first time in 1963. He was conferred with the honorary title of 'Asom Ratna' -- 'Jewel of Assam' by the intellectuals of Assam on 19 August 2007 at a public meet held under the presidency of Prof. (Dr) Satyendra Narayan Goswami.

The People's Consultative Group (PCG) was a citizen's group in Assam, India, comprising 11 members and established by the United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA) on September 8, 2005. Its objective was to initiate the peace talk process as mediator between the central government and ULFA. The PCG was dissolved by ULFA chairman Arabinda Rajkhowa in February 2011. ULFA continued the peace talk process without the PCG on 10 February 2011 in New Delhi.

Mithinga Daimary was the Central Publicity Secretary of the banned outfit ULFA since the previous publicity secretary Siddhartha Phukan's surrender in 1992. He was born in Barama village in Barpeta district of Assam on 17 May 1967 with the birth name Deepak Kachari.

Kamal Kumari National Award Award

The Kamal Kumari National Award is an Indian Award given to individuals and groups in India for outstanding contribution to Art, Culture & Literature and Science & Technology. It was instituted by the Kamal Kumari Foundation in 1990 in memory of Kamal Kumari Barooah, the remarkable matriarch of the Khongiya Barooah family of Thengal, Assam. The foundation has till date a number of awardees. The first award was given to Sobha Brahma in 1991 in the category of Culture. The award carries a cash award of Rs.200,000, a trophy and a citation.

Literature from North East India refers to literature of in the languages of North East India and the body of work by English-language writers from this region. North-East India is an under-represented region in many ways. The troubled political climate, the beautiful landscape and the confluence of various ethnic groups perhaps have given rise to a body of writing that is completely different from Indian English Literature. North-East India was a colonial construct and continues to be one by virtue of having a historically difficult relationship with the Indian nation state.

Assam separatist movements

Assam separatist movements are insurgency movements operating in Northeast India's oil-rich state of Assam. The conflict started in the 1970s following tension between the native indigenous Assamese people and the Indian government over alleged neglect, domination, subjugation, political, social, cultural, economic exploitation and internal colonisation through its federal centre in Delhi. The conflict has resulted in the deaths of 12,000 United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA) members and 18,000 others.

Imran Shah (writer) Indian Assamese language writer, poet, novelist, and scholar

Imran Shah, also known as Nawab Imran Shah is an Indian Assamese language writer, poet, novelist, and scholar. He also writes under the pen names Ishan Dutta, Anamika Baruah, Kumbhakarna, and Animesh Baruah. The Government of India awarded him the fourth highest civilian honour of the Padma Shri, in 2021, for his contributions to literature and education.

Asom Ratna is the highest civilian award in the State of Assam, India. It is being conferred for outstanding contribution in literature, art and culture and social service. The award is offered by the Government of Assam. It was started in 2009 and Dr. Bhupen Hazarika was first awardee. Famous Indian scientist from Assam Dr. Jitendranath Goswami who got Asom Ratna for 2015 is last awardee. The award carries a cash prize of ₹300,000, a plaque and a shawl.

Cotton University University in Guwahati, India

Cotton University is a public state university located in Guwahati, Assam, India. It was established in 2017 by the provisions of an Act enacted by Assam Legislative Assembly to merge the Cotton College State University and Cotton College. The university made its way to become one of the top 200 institutions of the country by figuring in the band of 150–200 in the National Institutional Ranking Framework rank list in May 2020.

Nalini Prava Deka Indian writer

Nalini Prava Deka was an author, poet, storyteller, actress and playwright from Assam, a state in India encompassing the Brahmaputra Valley. She was honoured at a 2012 gathering in Ledo by the Assam Sahitya Sabha. Deka promoted Assamese heritage, traditional customs, weaving and fabric art, cooking and folk music with her husband, Bhabananda Deka. They researched traditional Assamese lifestyle, art, literature and culture. Deka was the first female editor and publisher of a children's magazine, Phul (Flower), and wrote 30 critically praised books. All India Radio broadcast Deka's radio plays on issues related to women and children.

Suresh Ranjan Goduka is an Indian poet and social activist from Assam. He is the editor of Assamese monthly magazine Jeevan, which sells 5000 copies a month and founder of Jeevan kite and river festival. India Today listed Goduka among India's 35 young achievers who have shown determination, innovation and courage towards the uplift of the society.
