Tarren Otte (born 29 March 1984) is an Australian Olympic synchronized swimmer. She was selected to represent Australia at the 2008 and 2012 Summer Olympics in synchronized swimming. [1]

Personal

Otte was born on 29 March 1984 in Victoria. [2] She earned a Bachelor of Applied Science, enabling her to teach physical education. [3] As of 2012, she lives in Port Melbourne. [2]

Otte is 161 centimetres (5 ft 3 in) tall and weighs 58 kilograms (128 lb). [2]

Synchronized swimming

Otte is a synchronized swimmer, [2] starting in the sport when she was nine years old. [3] She also coaches other synchronized swimmers in Melbourne. [3] Continuing to be involved with sport at times was a struggle because of the finances involved in competing. [4]

In 2007, Otte competed at the FINA world championships in the team event. [5] The ten person team was the first Australian one to make it in the finals for the synchronised swimming free combination routine. [5] As a nineteen-year-old, [3] she competed in the 2008 Summer Olympics. [6] [7] [8] [9] [10] Part of the team's routine included pretending to be emus, kangaroos and crocodiles. [11] Her team came in seventh, [6] [7] scoring 40,417 in the technical routine, 41,750 in the free routine, 41,333 in technical merit, and 42,167 in artistic impression. [12] During the Games, she had a lucky towel. [3]

Otte competed at the 2010 Commonwealth Games and failed to make the podium. [7] [13] She was in fifth place with a score of 39.334 following the first part of the competition. [13] Following the second routine, she finished in fourth place after beating Katrina Abdul Hadi of Malaysia [14] and missing bronze by two points. [4] She had been considered a medal contender going into the Games. [15] Following the Commonwealth Games, she briefly retired from the sport. [4] [7]

Otte was selected to represent Australia at the 2012 Summer Olympics in synchronized swimming. [2] [6] [7] [16] As a twenty-seven-year-old, she was the oldest member of the team. [7] The FINA World Championships held in Shanghai, China served as the 2012 Olympic qualifying event for the team. In the technical team portion, her team finished 18th and in the Free Team event, her team finished 17th. [17]

Deborah Muir is a Canadian former synchronized swimmer and coach. She began her career with the Calgary Aquabelles club in 1965 and won silver medals in the synchronized swimming team competitions at both the 1971 Pan American Games and the 1973 World Aquatics Championships. At age 20, Muir retired from competition and began a career in coaching. She coached swimmers of the Calgary Aquabelles to 22 national titles over a decade. She also helped athletes clinch medals in the World Aquatics Championships, the FINA Cup, the Commonwealth Games, the Pan American Games and the Summer Olympic Games. Muir has won various awards for her coaching career, and is an inductee of the Alberta Sports Hall of Fame, the Canadian Olympic Hall of Fame, Canada's Sports Hall of Fame and the International Swimming Hall of Fame.

Rachel Presser is an Australian synchronised swimmer. Artistic Swimming made its Olympic debut in 1984 and is one of only two events that is female only at the Olympics. Teams perform a 3-minute technical routine of five technical elements and a 4-minute free routine that emphasises creativity and choreography.
