The first Miss Bhutan pageant was held in 2008, the first winner of Miss Bhutan, Tsokye Tsomo Karchung, participated in Miss Earth 2008 beauty pageant, an annual international beauty contest promoting environmental awareness. She took part in the 8th Edition of Miss Earth, Miss Young International in Taiwan, and Miss Safari 2008 in Kenya. The second Miss Bhutan was held in 2010 where Sonam Choden Retty was the winner and held the title for the longest period (2010-2021). The third edition of Miss Bhutan was held only after a decade, Tashi Choden took the title and is now the reigning queen. She is the first one in the country to represent in the Miss Universe.

AumDorji Choden is a Bhutanese politician. She was appointed minister of Bhutan's Works and Human Settlement Ministry in 2013, making her the first woman to serve as a minister in Bhutanese cabinet.

Neten Zangmo is a Bhutanese government official and politician. She headed Bhutan's Anti-Corruption Commission, and was bestowed with the title of Dasho in 2009. On 29 May 2017 she became leader of Bhutan Kuen-Nyam Party. She resigned the position on September 16, 2018, the day after the party failed to make the first round of voting to compete in the general election, but it took nearly two years for the BKP to accept her resignation. The party founder, Sonam Tobgay, told Bhutan Broadcasting Service that it would be difficult to replace Zangmo, who he considered the party's biggest asset. "Within the BKP family, we have high respect for her and also have expectations from her.”
Ashi Tashi Chodzom Dorji is a much-loved figure in Bhutan, having played a significant role in modern history, international relations and cultural life.
Jigme Drukpa is a Bhutanese musician and singer of traditional folk songs, born in 1969 in the small village of Wongchelo, in Pemagatshel, eastern Bhutan. He graduated from Sherubtse College in 1993, and undertook postgraduate studies in Norway. He studied folk music at Rauland Academy and ethno music at Grieg Academy, and returned to Bhutan in 1999 as the country's first ethno-musicologist. He completed a master's degree in music therapy in Norway in 2017.
Dasho Dawa Dem was a Bhutanese bureaucrat. The first woman to join the Bhutanese civil service, she held positions in various government branches, namely the Royal Secretariat, the Thimphu District Administration, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Royal Advisory Council, in a career spanning two decades, from 1965 to 1985. She helped establish the National Women's Association of Bhutan in 1981 was appointed its secretary in 1985. She retired in 2009 and died in 2018.
Tashi Choden Chombal is a Bhutanese model and beauty pageant titleholder. In 2022, she won the title of Miss Bhutan, representing her country at the Miss Universe pageant. She is one of the first openly homosexual people in her home country, Bhutan.
