Taste of Home is an American media brand centered on food. It is an example of user-generated content in magazines, publishing recipes submitted by home cooks. [1] Taste of Home is owned by Trusted Media Brands, which also owns Reader's Digest , Birds and Blooms and The Family Handyman .

History

The magazine was first published in 1993 [2] with an aim to provide readers with recipes and information geared toward home cooks. It was originally based in Greendale, Wisconsin. Early issues used ingredients that could be found at local American grocery stores. Taste of Home's content now includes ethnic and world cuisine.[ citation needed ]

Taste of Home produces a variety of special interest publications, cookbooks and recipe collections. [3]

In 2002, Reader's Digest acquired Reiman Publications, Taste of Home's publisher, for $760 million. [4] In 2012, Reader's Digest combined Healthy Cooking with Taste of Home. [5]

In 2013, Taste of Home began hosting Gingerbread BLVD, featuring an interactive, full-scale gingerbread house in New York City created during the holiday season. [6]

As of 2019, Taste of Home had over 12 million readers. [1] In October 2019, Taste of Home released a new edition of Taste of Home: Grandma's Favorites. [1] Also in the fall of 2019, the fifth edition of The Taste of Home Cookbook was released. [1]

<i>Joy of Cooking</i> Book by Irma S. Rombauer

Joy of Cooking, often known as "The Joy of Cooking", is one of the United States' most-published cookbooks. It has been in print continuously since 1936 and has sold more than 20 million copies. It was published privately during 1931 by Irma S. Rombauer (1877–1962), a homemaker in St. Louis, Missouri, after her husband's suicide the previous year. Rombauer had 3,000 copies printed by A.C. Clayton, a company which had printed labels for fancy St. Louis shoe companies and for Listerine mouthwash, but never a book. Beginning in 1936, the book was published by a commercial printing house, the Bobbs-Merrill Company. With nine editions, Joy of Cooking is considered the most popular American cookbook.

Gourmet magazine was a monthly publication of Condé Nast and the first U.S. magazine devoted to food and wine. The New York Times noted that "Gourmet was to food what Vogue is to fashion." Founded by Earle R. MacAusland (1890–1980), Gourmet, first published in January 1941, also covered "good living" on a wider scale, and grew to incorporate culture, travel, and politics into its food coverage. James Oseland, an author and editor in chief of rival food magazine Saveur, called Gourmet "an American cultural icon."

The Betty Crocker Cookbook is a cookbook written by staff at General Mills, the holders of the Betty Crocker trademark. The persona of Betty Crocker was invented by the Washburn-Crosby Company as a feminine "face" for the company's public relations. Early editions of the cookbook were ostensibly written by the character herself.

Roy J. Reiman is the founder of Reiman Publications based in Greendale, Wisconsin, which is best known for its country-oriented magazines, books, and other home products. Roy Reiman is credited with building the country's largest, private, subscription-based publishing company. In 2003, it was reported that one out of every eight households in the United States subscribed to a Reiman magazine. Roy Reiman was named publisher of the year in 1991 by Magazine Weekly and Wisconsin's Master Entrepreneur in 1992. Everything Tastes Better with Bacon: 70 Fabulous Recipes for Every Meal of the Day is a book about cooking with bacon written by author, food commentator and The Oregonian columnist Sara Perry. The book was published in the United States on May 1, 2002, by Chronicle Books, and in a French language edition in 2004 by Les Éditions de l'Homme in Montreal. In it, Perry describes her original concept of recipes combining sugar and bacon. Her book includes recipes for bacon-flavored dishes and desserts.

<i>The Settlement Cook Book</i>

The Settlement Cook Book is a complete cookbook and guide to running a household, compiled by Lizzie Black Kander, first published in 1901. The compendium of recipes, cooking techniques, nutrition information, serving procedures and other useful information was intended to support young women raising their families. The context for the cookbook was the Settlement House of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, which served the needs of recent immigrants including many Jewish families arriving from Europe.

Molly Baz is an American cook, recipe developer, and food writer. She was a senior food editor at Bon Appétit magazine and appeared frequently in videos for the magazine's YouTube channel before leaving in 2020. Baz has published two cookbooks, Cook This Book (2021) and More Is More (2023), both of which are New York Times Best Sellers.

Food52 is a recipe and cookware website. Founded in 2009 by Amanda Hesser and Merrill Stubbs, formerly of the New York Times, its website is intended as a platform for users to publish recipes and discuss cooking. The company also produces its own books.
