Tasting Table (incorporated as TDT Media Inc.) is a digital media company focused on food and drink. The brand's website and email newsletter report on food and drink trends in the categories of dining, wine, cocktails, cooking and food travel. In addition to publishing original articles, photos and videos, Tasting Table hosts events including the Lobster Rumble, held annually in New York and Los Angeles. [1]

History

Tasting Table was founded in 2008 by Geoff Bartakovics and John McDonald, [2] with backing from The Pilot Group, [3] a private equity firm established by Bob Pittman. [4] [5] [6]

Lobster Rumble

Since 2010, Tasting Table has hosted an annual lobster roll competition, now called Tasting Table’s Lobster Rumble. Originally called the "Lobster Roll Claw-Off" [7] and hosted only in New York City, the event now occurs annually in New York City in June of each year [8] and moves to Los Angeles in August. The event brings lobster roll purveyors from across the country together to compete for the title of “Fan Favorite,” selected by event attendees, or “Editor’s Choice,” selected by Tasting Table editors. The 2014 New York Lobster Rumble hosted 20 competitors and 2000 attendees, while the Los Angeles Lobster Rumble included 13 competitors and 1000 attendees. [9] [10]

DINE by Tasting Table

In 2015, Tasting Table acquired Flavour, the restaurant discovery app that the New York Times once called “powerful” and “eye catching”. [11] Tasting Table subsequently relaunched the app as DINE by Tasting Table. DINE is a curated restaurant finder that makes it easy to discover the perfect dining destination for every situation. While Tasting Table editors have selected the restaurants included in each of the app's eight cities, DINE uniquely aggregates reviews from nearly 30 local and national publications, critics and epicurean websites. Users can quickly survey multiple viewpoints before deciding where to eat out. [12]

A table reservation is an arrangement made in advance to have a table available at a restaurant. While most restaurants in the vast majority of the world do not require a reservation, and some do not have a policy or simply any channel for making one, so-called higher-end restaurants mainly in overcrowded cities often require a reservation, and some may have tables booked for weeks in advance. At particularly exclusive venues, it may be impossible to make a reservation on the same day as the planned visit.

The Fat Cow was a restaurant owned and run by chef Gordon Ramsay and his business partner, Rowen Seibel. It opened in 2012 at The Grove shopping centre in Los Angeles, and after a series of legal challenges, it closed permanently in 2014. The menu was described by Ramsay as one you might expect to find in a "neighborhood restaurant."

Uber Eats is an online food ordering and delivery platform launched by Uber in 2014. Couriers deliver meals using cars, scooters, bikes, or on foot. It is operational in over 6,000 cities in 45 countries as of 2021.

Eater is a food website by Vox Media. It was co-founded by Lockhart Steele and Ben Leventhal in 2005, and originally focused on dining and nightlife in New York City. Eater launched a national site in 2009, and covered nearly 20 cities by 2012. Vox Media acquired Eater, along with two others comprising the Curbed Network, in late 2013. In 2017, Eater had around 25 local sites in the United States, Canada, and England. The site has been recognized twelve times by the James Beard Foundation Awards.

ChefsFeed is a media company focused on food and drink reviews. ChefsFeed publishes original videos and stories to its website and apps, as well as dining guides. ChefsFeed also hosted a dining event series called ChefsFeed Indie Week.

Locol was a restaurant founded by Roy Choi and Daniel Patterson. The name connoted both "local" and "loco". The restaurant aspires to serve healthy alternatives to fast food at affordable prices while benefiting communities and disrupting food deserts. The restaurant's first location was in the Watts neighborhood of Los Angeles. After opening several other locations in California, all closed in 2018. Choi later revived the brand in 2020 as a delivery-only "virtual restaurant".

A Lobster Palace was a large, expensive, lavishly designed and decorated dining establishment, popular with the affluent and famous in New York City and other major cities in the United States from the late 1890s to the 1910s. The restaurants, a nexus of high society for about 14 years, acquired their moniker from what was regarded as their most characteristic dish, the expensive and, then fashionable, lobster.

The Clam Shack is a seafood restaurant in Kennebunkport, Maine that serves its food for take-out. It has been in operation since 1968 and serves dishes from New England's cuisine. It is especially known for its lobster rolls. The shack has won accolades from magazines like Gourmet and Travel + Leisure. It is only open from May to October. Many celebrities have been spotted at the restaurant.
