Tawny Newsome (born February 24, 1983) is an American musician, comedian, and actress best known for playing Chelsea Leight-Leigh on Bajillion Dollar Propertie$ , co-starring in Space Force and the third season of Brockmire , and co-hosting the podcast Yo, Is This Racist? . She is also a singer in the band Four Lost Souls. [1] She voices one of the main characters, Beckett Mariner, on Star Trek: Lower Decks .
Originally from Vacaville, California, where she grew up on a ranch. Newsome attended DePaul Theatre School in Chicago, then started her comedy career with Second City. [2]
Newsome was a backup singer in a touring Talking Heads tribute band. This later led to her being cast in Documentary Now! in a similar role. [3]
Newsome's first major television roles were as Chelsea Leight-Leigh on Bajillion Dollar Propertie$ and Nina on The Comedy Get Down . [2]
Newsome has been a co-host of the podcast Yo, Is This Racist? alongside Andrew Ti since 2018. [1] She also appears as a frequent guest on podcasts such as Comedy Bang! Bang! and Spontaneanation with Paul F. Tompkins . [4] [5]
Newsome is also a musician and is a member of the band Four Lost Souls alongside Jon Langford, Bethany Thomas, and John Szymanski. [6] The group released a debut self-titled album in 2017. [7]
Newsome was in the main cast of Brockmire in its third season. [8] She was also cast in the 2019 ABC pilot Woman Up. [9] She was cast as a lead voice in the CBS All Access series Star Trek: Lower Decks . [10]
She appears in a lead role as Maj. Angela Ali in the Netflix series Space Force starting in 2020. [11]

The series, created by Kulap Vilaysack, is a semi-scripted parody of the reality television franchise Million Dollar Listing. Bajillion Dollar Propertie$ previewed its pilot episode on February 20, 2016 and officially premiered on March 17, 2016, and the series' second season premiered in the fall of 2016. On December 12, 2016, Seeso renewed the series for a third and fourth season. On August 9, 2017, Seeso announced the shutdown of its service by the end of the year, leaving Bajillion Dollar Propertie$ without a home. On July 15, 2019, it was reported that the previously unaired fourth season would air on Pluto TV. As of 2023 the series is no longer available on Pluto.TV.

In this crossover episode, characters from the animated series Star Trek: Lower Decks are sent back in time to the 23rd-century setting of Strange New Worlds. Captain Christopher Pike and the crew of the USS Enterprise (NCC-1701) have to work with Ensigns Mariner and Boimler to return them to their proper time.
