The Taxpayers League of Minnesota is a conservative lobbying group dedicated to lowering taxes in Minnesota. Ted Lillie serves as the group's president. [1] Prior to that, Darrell McKigney, Linda Runbeck, David Strom, and Phil Krinkie have served as Presidents of the Taxpayers League. [2] [3] [4]

The Taxpayers League was founded in 1997 by Mike Wigley. [5] It is primarily funded through large donations by individuals and corporation, providing weekly email updates and maintaining contact with legislators. Its representatives have made appearances on At Issue and Almanac .

The Taxpayers League has offered up a "Friend of the Taxpayers" award to legislators. Previous winners of the award include Gil Gutknecht and Bruce Anderson. [3] [6] In 2004, after the death of former-President Ronald Reagan, the League proposed renaming Minnesota State Highway 55 after the conservative icon; the plan was met with resistance and abandoned. [7]

The Taxpayers League sued State of Minnesota officials after a Minnesota campaign finance law was struck down as unconstitutional in 2010. [8] Under the revised law, the League said they would be unfairly penalized if they used their general funds to contribute to Republican candidates Paul Gazelka and Tom Emmer. [8]

In 2012, the Taxpayers League of Minnesota conducted a poll that found that the majority of respondents opposed building a new stadium for the Vikings. [9] [10]

2006 Minnesota gubernatorial election

The 2006 Minnesota gubernatorial election took place on November 7, 2006. Incumbent Tim Pawlenty was endorsed by the state Republican convention on June 2, 2006, while the state Democratic–Farmer–Labor convention endorsed Mike Hatch on June 10, 2006. The party primaries took place on September 12, 2006, with Hatch defeating DFL challengers Becky Lourey and Ole Savior and incumbent Pawlenty defeating Sue Jeffers. In the November 7 general election Pawlenty received a plurality of the votes, defeating Hatch by a margin of one percent.

John J. Marty is a member of the Minnesota Senate, representing District 66, which includes portions of Ramsey County in the northern Twin Cities metropolitan area. As a young state senator, he ran for Governor of Minnesota in 1994. He won the DFL party nomination and the Democratic primary but lost the general election to the incumbent governor, Arne Carlson. He ran for governor again in 2010, but withdrew from the race after failing to win his party's endorsement.

The 2010 Minnesota gubernatorial election was held on Tuesday, November 2, 2010 to elect the 40th Governor of the U.S. state of Minnesota for a four-year term to begin in January 2011. The general election was contested by the major party candidates State Representative Tom Emmer (R–Delano), former U.S. Senator Mark Dayton (DFL), and Independence Party candidate Tom Horner. After a very close race, Dayton was elected governor. Emmer would be elected to the United States House of Representatives four years later.

Minnesota Sports Facilities Authority

The Minnesota Sports Facilities Authority (MSFA) is the public authority that owns and operates U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota. It was established in 2012 by the Minnesota Legislature as the successor organization to the Metropolitan Sports Facilities Commission (MSFC), which was established in 1977 to oversee the construction of the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome; the MSFC owned and operated the Metrodome in a similar fashion to the MSFA. The MSFA initially oversaw the Metrodome until the stadium was demolished to make way for U.S. Bank Stadium in early 2014. Three of its five members are appointed by the Governor of Minnesota, with the remaining two being appointed by the mayor of Minneapolis.

Philip B. Krinkie is an American politician from the state of Minnesota. He is a former member of the Minnesota House of Representatives, from 1991 to 2006, and a candidate for Minnesota's 6th congressional district in the United States House of Representatives, being vacated by Michele Bachmann.

The 2020 United States presidential election in Minnesota was held on Tuesday, November 3, 2020, as part of the 2020 United States elections in which all 50 states plus the District of Columbia participated. Minnesota voters chose electors to represent them in the Electoral College via a popular vote, pitting the Republican Party's nominee, incumbent President Donald Trump, and running mate Vice President Mike Pence against Democratic Party nominee, former Vice President Joe Biden, and his running mate California Senator Kamala Harris. Minnesota has 10 electoral votes in the Electoral College.
