William Taylor Brown was a Republican member of the Montana Legislature. He served Senate District 22,representing Huntley,Montana,since 2009. [1] Due to redistricting he also served District 28. Brown is widely known as an on-air farm broadcaster. He was mentioned as a possible candidate for the 2012 Montana Governor's race,but did not run. [2]
Dennis Ray Rehberg is an American politician and member of the Republican Party. He served as the lieutenant governor of Montana from 1991 to 1997 and as the U.S. representative for Montana's at-large congressional district from 2001 to 2013. Rehberg was the Republican nominee for the United States Senate in 1996 and 2012,losing to Democratic incumbents Max Baucus 49% to 44% and Jon Tester 48% to 44%,respectively. He subsequently became a co-chairman at Mercury,a Washington D.C. lobbying firm.
Brian David Schweitzer is an American farmer and politician who served as the 23rd Governor of Montana from 2005 to 2013. Schweitzer served for a time as chair of the Western Governors Association as well as the Democratic Governors Association. He also served as President of the Council of State Governments.
The 1954 United States Senate elections was a midterm election in the first term of Dwight D. Eisenhower's presidency. The 32 Senate seats of Class 2 were contested in regular elections,and six special elections were held to fill vacancies. Eisenhower's Republican party lost a net of two seats to the Democratic opposition. The 2008 United States Senate election in Montana was held on November 4,2008. Incumbent Senator Max Baucus won re-election to a sixth term in a landslide,winning more than 70% of the vote and carrying every county in the state,despite Republican John McCain's narrow victory in the state in the concurrent presidential election. Baucus later resigned his seat on February 6,2014,after the Senate confirmed him to be U.S. Ambassador to China,having already announced his intention to retire at the end of term on April 23,2013. As of 2024,this is the last time Democrats won the Class 2 Senate seat in Montana.
The 2004 Montana gubernatorial election took place on November 2,2004,for the post of Governor of Montana. The incumbent governor,Judy Martz,a Republican,did not seek reelection. Democrat Brian Schweitzer defeated Montana Secretary of State and Republican nominee Bob Brown with 50.4% of the vote against 46%. Schweitzer formed a ticket with a Republican running mate,choosing state legislator John Bohlinger for the lieutenant governorship.

Cooney was the Democratic nominee for governor of Montana in the 2020 election,losing to Republican U.S. Representative Greg Gianforte.

From 2015 to 2017,he served as Senate majority leader. Rosendale was elected Montana state auditor in 2016 and held that position from 2017 to 2020. Rosendale ran unsuccessfully for the U.S. House of Representatives in 2014 and for the U.S. Senate in 2018. He was elected to represent Montana's at-large congressional district in 2020. After Montana regained its second House seat in the 2020 census,Rosendale was elected to represent the new 2nd congressional district in 2022.

The 2017 United States elections were held,in large part,on Tuesday,November 7,2017. This off-year election featured gubernatorial elections in Virginia and New Jersey,as well as state legislative elections in both houses of the New Jersey Legislature and in the Virginia House of Delegates. Numerous citizen initiatives,mayoral races,and a variety of other local elections also occurred. Special elections were also held for one seat of the U.S. Senate,representing Alabama,and six seats of the U.S. House of Representatives. Incumbent Democratic governor Steve Bullock was term-limited and could not seek a third consecutive term in office,and he ran unsuccessfully for Montana's Class II Senate seat.
The 2024 United States Senate election in Montana was held on November 5,2024,to elect a member of the United States Senate to represent the state of Montana. Incumbent Democratic Senator Jon Tester lost re-election to a fourth term,being defeated by Republican nominee Tim Sheehy. Sheehy's victory gave Republicans control of both of Montana's Senate seats for the first time since 1911. Primary elections took place on June 4,2024. Although Tester outperformed Kamala Harris in the concurrent presidential election by 12.8 points,which was the strongest overperformance of any Democratic Senate candidate,it was still not enough to win.
