Tearist is an American electronic and industrial band formed in 2009 by Yasmine Kittles (vocals, percussion, synthesizer) and William Strangeland (synthesizer, programming) in Los Angeles, California. [1] [2]

History

The members of Tearist have stated that they were intending to create a movement more than a band, accepting all influences and dissecting them to allow for a new and instinctual musical product to emerge. [3]

Their debut album on Thin Wrist Records is a collection of live recordings titled Living: 2009—Present. It captures their lo-fi aesthetic with found objects, howling vocals and crowd noise. [4]

Reception

LA Record described Living: 2009—Present as "an unified artifact that defies the span of time in which it was recorded," and called the album, "a gem that transcends the traditional live album and verges on being an art-object in and of itself." [4] [5] [6] Rolling Stone described Tearist as being "about pushing people out of their comfort zone to the point where they question their own existence." [7]

Living: 2009—Present was described as a "gothy electro-noise duo" by the Los Angeles Times music blog, and LA Weekly wrote in a cover interview that, "Tearist became the most crucial musical project to come out of Los Angeles in recent years." [8] [9]

Advent is a hardcore band from Kernersville, North Carolina. The band featured members of an earlier post-hardcore band named Beloved, and was formed in 2005 after the break of Beloved. The band had released two albums under the label Solid State Records. The band announced in July 2011 that they had disbanded, and held two final shows on September 2 and 3 in South Carolina and North Carolina, respectively. The band, as of 2015, had reunited and is releasing a new album titled, Pain and Suffering. The band has recently signed to Bridge 9. The group has been called "...one of the state's heaviest exports..."

The Zeros, originally known as The Double “O” Zeros, were a glam metal and glam punk band from Los Angeles, California. Characterized by their matching purple hair, the band was a prominent figure on the Hollywood club scene of the late 1980s – early 1990s. In 1991 the band’s record label Restless Records had the nightclubs Whisky a Go Go and Coconut Teaszer painted purple to commemorate the release of their album 4-3-2-1 The Zeros.

Yasmine Kittles is an American musician, actress, and performance artist. She is a member of the bands Tearist, Former Ghosts, and Low Red Center. About her stage performances, Rolling Stone has written, "Aided by her hair-raising yelp – a voice ranging from an operatic shriek to a post-Lydia Lunch growl – Kittles is thunder onstage, her assault uniquely confrontational and her crowd's response visceral." She also writes for VICE Magazine as a guest columnist.

Cairo Knife Fight (CKF) is a rock band originating from New Zealand, founded in 2007 by musical artist Nick Gaffaney, featuring a drum and guitar duo incorporating real-time layered loops.

OvO is an Italian noise rock duo formed by Stefania Pedretti and Bruno Dorella in 2000 in Ravenna, Italy. The two initially planned for the band to be totally improvisation-based with an open lineup. After encouragement from members of their local music scene to become a band and tour, they decided to do so in order to play with Cock ESP, an extreme noise band from Minneapolis. Since, the pair have released eight full-length albums on a variety of international record labels including Load Records, Dio Drone, Bar La Muerte, and Supernatural Cat, among others. The origin of the band's name, OvO, stems from using a piece of the Italian word "nuovo", or new, which creates a palindrome. Decibel Magazine summarizes OvO's latest album, Creatura, as "making rhythmic, layered, sludgy noise" and a "David Lynch dance party". The duo has toured extensively across the world, playing over 1000 shows in varied locations including Europe, Asia, North America, and Mexico.
