Ted Adams is an American publisher and producer. He is a cofounder and long-time Publisher/CEO of IDW Publishing, which he ran from 1999 to 2018. Adams is also the executive producer for several films and television properties. In 2019, he cofounded the boutique publisher Clover Press.

Early life

Ted Adams was born and raised in Oregon. [1] He graduated from Southern Oregon University [2] and later attended University of Notre Dame, where he received an MBA. [3]

Publishing

Ted Adams moved to San Diego, California in 1990 to work for comic book company WildStorm Productions. [3] After it was purchased by DC Comics, Adams cofounded IDW in order to maintain the creative services business and some of the clientele that Wildstorm would close as a part of that acquisition. [4] Adams founded IDW Publishing in 1999 with Alex Garner, Kris Oprisko and Robbie Robbins; Adams served as the company’s CEO and publisher until 2018. [5] [4] Over fifteen years, Adams built the company into the fourth largest comic book publisher in the world, [6] with original titles and licensing with franchise film and television properties. [7] The company was acquired in 2007 by IDT, after which Adams remained the head [5] IDW Media holdings, which also produces strategic board games, television, and film properties. [8] [9] Under Adams, the company has been the recipient of a National Book Award and 29 Eisner Awards. [10]

In May 2019, it was announced that Adams and Robbins were launching a new publishing house, Clover Press, for prose works, graphic novels, art books, and other works. [11] [12] While IDW Publishing is an investor in Clover Press, Clover Press is not an imprint and will not share overhead or infrastructure with IDW Publishing. [13]

Writing

Ted Adams has also written his own original title comics, including Diablo House. [14]

Film

Ted Adams has served as executive producer of the television series V-Wars , Brooklyn Animal Control, Awakened, Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency , Wynonna Earp , and Locke & Key . He also produced the films Remains and 30 Days of Night . [15]

Boards

Ted Adams is the chairman of the board for Traveling Stories, [16] and in 2018 Adams was named to the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund Board of Directors. [9]

Steve Niles is an American comic book author and novelist, known for works such as 30 Days of Night, Criminal Macabre: A Cal McDonald Mystery, Simon Dark, Mystery Society, and Batman: Gotham County Line.

Troy Little is a Canadian cartoonist working in comic books and animation. He is known for Chiaroscuro, a graphic novel whose first volume was developed between 2000 and 2005 under his Meanwhile, Studios imprint. After winning two grants and being praised by Dave Sim, Chiaroscuro vol. 1 was released in 2007 by IDW Publishing.

Chris Ryall

In February 2011, his Eisner Award-nominated series, Zombies vs. Robots, co-created with artist Ashley Wood, was optioned by Sony Pictures for Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes with Mike Flanagan as director.

Marley Zarcone is a Canadian comic book artist who works primarily for Image and DC Comics. Along with Corey Lewis, Brandon Graham and James Stokoe, she's a part of a studio/collective called "Yosh Comics". In 2015, she launched Effigy with Tim Seeley for DC Comics' Vertigo imprint. In 2016, she launched Shade, the Changing Girl with Cecil Castellucci for Gerard Way's Young Animal imprint.

Hasbro Reconstruction

Hasbro Reconstruction was a 2016 comic book launch by IDW Publishing about its line of comic books based on properties of the toy company Hasbro. Since June 2016, this branding converged most of IDW's Hasbro comics into the Hasbro Comic Book Universe, using the end of Revolution as its launching pod, which then continued with First Strike. For November 2018, IDW concluded the branding.

Joan Hilty is an American cartoonist, educator, and comic book editor. She was a Senior Editor for mainstream publisher DC Comics and currently works for Nickelodeon as Editorial Director for graphic novels, comics, and legacy properties. Hilty works independently as both a writer-artist and editor.

The Library of American Comics is an American publisher of classic American comic strips collections and comic history books, founded by Dean Mullaney and Bruce Canwell in 2007. The company is an imprint of IDW Publishing.

The Complete Chester Gould's Dick Tracy is a series of 29 hardcover books published by The Library of American Comics, an imprint of IDW Publishing, that bring together every Dick Tracy comic strip in chronological order, both black-and-white dailies and Sunday strips, written and drawn by Chester Gould from its premiere on October 4, 1931, until December 25, 1977.

Sunday Press Books is an American publisher of comic strip reprint collections founded in 2005 by Peter Maresca. The company is known as a respected reprinter of comic strips and has to date won three Eisner Awards and two Harvey Awards. In 2019 the company entered into a joint agreement of distribution and marketing with IDW Publishing.
