Ted Weill is an American politician and businessman who serves as the Mayor of Rancho Mirage,California. He has been a member of the Rancho Mirage City Council since December 2012 and was most recently sworn in as mayor on December 5,2024,beginning his third non-consecutive term in the role. [1]
Weill is a graduate of the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania,where he studied finance,and earned his Master of Business Administration from Pepperdine University,graduating with honors. [1]
Weill served in the United States Navy,where he was assigned to the U.S.S. Randolph,an aircraft carrier stationed in the Middle East. [1]
After completing his military service,Weill moved to California and participated in an executive training program with ABC Television. He subsequently pursued his interest in real estate by forming Weill Financial Corporation. His company was involved in the development of master-planned communities in California and Nevada,as well as recreational vehicle parks. Weill has been active in banking and has taken a company public that was listed on the stock exchange. [1]
Weill moved to Rancho Mirage in 1998 [2] and was appointed to the City Council on December 20,2012. [1] Prior to his council appointment,he served as Chairman of the Planning Commission for six years and Co-Chairman of the Redevelopment Successor Agency Oversight Board. [1]
In April 2014,Weill was elected to a two-year term,winning over 73% of the vote. [1] He was reelected in April 2016 to a four-year term. [1]

During his tenure as mayor,Weill has focused on maintaining the city's fiscal health. In one of his State of the City addresses,he announced that Rancho Mirage ended fiscal year 2015-16 with a $2.4 million surplus,maintaining the city's balanced budget since its incorporation. [3]

Weill has been active in pursuing alternative forms of energy,including overseeing the installation of solar panels at City Hall,the Rancho Mirage Library and Observatory,and the maintenance facility. He introduced policy changes to provide for the distribution of funds to a greater number of deserving organizations. [1]
His real estate background has provided expertise to the Affordable Housing Design subcommittee,which oversees projects including San Jacinto senior units and Monterey Village family housing. He was actively involved in coordinating the purchase and development of the Rancho Las Palmas shopping center and was a major contributor to the reopening of the Ritz Carlton Hotel,which had been closed for seven years. Weill is active in the planned development of Section 19,Cotino,a 269-acre area that will serve as the future economic engine of the city. The property is planned for three million square feet of mixed-use residential,commercial,retail,and entertainment development. [1]
In the 2020 City Council election,Weill was the highest vote-getter with 3,690 votes. [4] He was endorsed for re-election by The Desert Sun in 2016,with the editorial board noting that "Rancho Mirage is a well-run,fiscally sound city." [3]
In the 2024 election,Weill ran for re-election alongside incumbent City Councilor Michael O'Keefe,with the two candidates endorsing each other. [5]
Weill has been a desert resident since 1998 and has lived full-time in Rancho Mirage for 26 years as of 2024. [2] He is married to Jenny Weill,a Certified Public Accountant,and they have two children and five grandchildren. [1]
