The Teen Idols were a pop punk band originally from Nashville, Tennessee. They were formed in 1992 by Phillip Hill and originally broke up in 2003. The band reunited in 2008 in Chicago, Illinois, with a retooled lineup before breaking up again in 2010. [1]

History

The band was formed in 1992 in Nashville, Tennessee and quickly gained local popularity while playing at venues such as Lucy's Record Shop and receiving frequent airplay on Nashville college radio. [2] [3] During the mid-90s, they released several EPs under the local indie label, House O' Pain. [4] In 1996, the Nashville Music Association nominated the band for their Independent Artist of the Year award. [5] A year later, the Teen Idols released their first full-length album under the indie label Honest Don's Records. [2] They released two other albums under the Honest Don's label before signing to Fueled by Ramen in early 2003. Around that time, Keith Witt left the band and Kevin Sierzega (formerly of Detroit-based P.T.'s Revenge) took over the vocals. Shortly thereafter, the band released the album Nothing to Prove in July 2003, but broke up during the subsequent tour. During their heyday, the Teen Idols headlined many tours in the U.S. and played support with other notable bands such as NOFX, Anti-Flag, Less Than Jake, and The Queers. [5]

After the breakup of the Teen Idols, Tabor, Yonker, and Witt joined forces with Geis and Gui from Rehasher and have toured and recorded as the band Bullets to Broadway. The band released one album, Drink Positive, and supported Lagwagon and Lawrence Arms on US legs as well as Less Than Jake on their 2006 European tour. Yanker went on to play with The Queers, Ben Weasel, The Methadones and would own Drastic Sounds Recording Studio in Nashville. Hill did duties with many bands including The Queers, Screeching Weasel, and Even in Blackouts.

In December 2008, the Teen Idols announced that they had decided to come out of retirement and would soon be making new records and playing shows again. [6] In early 2009, the Teen Idols announced a tentative agreement to sign with Fat Wreck Chords [7] but an official contract never materialized. [1] Later that year, guitar player Phillip Hill was hospitalized with four broken ribs and a collapsed lung after trying to break up a fight. Because he lacked health insurance, an account was set up to help raise money for his medical bills. [8] The band broke up again in June 2010. [1]

Former bassist Roxanne "Rocksan" Biggerstaff, who later worked as a professional wrestling valet in various promotions, especially under the ring name BellaDonna as part of the early 2000s stable The Disciples of the New Church in Impact Wrestling when it was known as Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA), died on January 21, 2019. [9] She was 39.

With the addition of Keith Hages joining on bass in 1983 the band started playing their first public performances. This original lineup played a total of five or six live shows. The original lineup of The Queers initially broke up in late 1984, but reformed with Joe Queer and a new line-up in 1986. In 1990, the band signed with Shakin' Street Records and released their first album Grow Up. The album earned the band notability within New England, but with the release of their next album 1993's Love Songs for the Retarded, on Lookout! Records, their following grew larger.

Disrupt was an American crust punk band from Lynn, Massachusetts that was active from 1987 to 1993. The lineup was Jay Stiles and Pete Kamarinos (vocals), Chris Drake (guitar), Harry Haralabatos (drums), Tony Leone (bass). After recording one rehearsal demo, Tony and Harry left the band. Brad Jones (drums) and Mike Williams (guitar) joined in the spring of 1988. Brad left the band a couple of months later and Mike started playing drums. With this lineup, they recorded the Millions Die For Moneymaking thirteen-song demo with Jay also playing bass in November 1988. In the spring of 1989, Mike and Chris left the band and Harry their first drummer rejoined so they could record songs that at the time were supposed to be on a split 7" with Extreme Noise Terror. At this time, they recruited Scott Lucid to play bass. In October 1989, they recorded five songs for the self titled 7" that was co-released on Crust records and Deafcore records. The lineup on the first 7" was Pete (vocals), Jay, Scott (bass) and Harry (drums). In 1990, Scott left the band and they acquired Bob Palombo to play bass. A few months earlier, Chris Drake rejoined the band and Terry Savastano (Spasm) joined on second guitar. This lineup recorded eleven songs for the Refuse Planet 7" Relapse and split 7" with Destroy in January 1991. Both records were released in 1991. Chris left the band in early 1991 and then they got Jeff Hayward on second guitar. About a week after Jeff joined the band, Harry (drums) quit so they recruited Randy Odierno. In May 1991 the lineup was Pete Kamarinos (vocals), Jay Stiles (vocals), Terry Savastano (guitar), Jeff Hayward (guitar), Bob Palombo (bass) and Randy Odierno (drums). That year they entered Headroom studios and recorded songs for split 7"s with Disdain, Resist, Tuomiopaivan Lapset (Ecocentric) and Taste of Fear. The split 7"s and the Smash Divisions live 7" (S.O.A.) were released in 1992. In November 1992, they entered One World studios with Bill T. Miller and recorded thirty songs for the Unrest album and Deprived 7". The ten songs for the Deprived 7" were new recordings of older tracks. In June 1993, they entered the Lanes studios with Bill T Miller and recorded 17 songs. Eight songs from the session were released on the split LP with Sauna (Sludge) in 1994. The split 7" with Warcollapse was released on Crust records in 1995. Disrupt toured Europe in October/November 1993. After the tour, they broke up due to personal and musical differences. The Unrest album was released on Relapse in August 1994.
