Sekondi-Takoradi is a city in Ghana comprising the twin cities of Sekondi and Takoradi. It is the capital of Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan District and the Western Region of Ghana. Sekondi-Takoradi is the region's largest city as well as an industrial and commercial center with a population of 104,847 people, according to the 2021 census. The current mayor of the city and the metropolitan as a whole is Hon. Abdul-Mumin Issah.
Tema is a city on the Bight of Benin and Atlantic coast of Ghana. It is located 25 kilometres (16 mi) east of the capital city; Accra, in the region of Greater Accra, and is the capital of the Tema Metropolitan District. As of 2013, Tema is the eleventh most populous settlement in Ghana, with a population of approximately 161,612 people – a marked decrease from its 2005 figure of 209,000. The Greenwich Meridian passes directly through the city. Tema is locally nicknamed the "Harbour City" because of its status as Ghana's largest seaport. It consists of 25 different communities which are numbered accordingly with each of them having easy access to the basic amenities.
Located directly east of the Korle Lagoon, Jamestown and Usshertown are the oldest districts of Accra, Ghana and emerged as communities around the 17th century British James Fort and Dutch Ussher Fort on the Gulf of Guinea coast. These districts were developed at the end of the 19th century, and following the rapid growth of the city during the 20th century, they became areas of a dense mixture of commercial and residential use.

The Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) is the national port authority of Ghana. By the 1900s these had converged to six main ports of trade. From 1920 to the 1940s the transport witnessed its first revolution in the road and rail network which culminated in the construction of the Takoradi Port. Further road expansion and shifts in the direction of trade in the post independence era led to the construction of the Ghana's second port Tema Port, and Port of Tema, and the Fishing Harbour at Tema. GPHA main offices are in Sekondi-Takoradi, and Tema.

Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jr., is a Ghanaian reggae-dancehall artist. He is known by his stage name Shatta Wale, formerly Bandana. Wale is also an actor who appeared in the films Never Say Never,The trial of Shatta Wale and Shattered Lives. Wale's 2004 recording "Moko Hoo" was nominated for a Ghana Music Award.
Albert Bosomtwi-Sam was a Ghanaian lawyer and politician. He belonged to the National Democratic Congress (NDC). Bosomtwi-Sam started the Bosumtwi - Sam & Associates Law Firm in Takoradi in the Western Region. He served as Member of Parliament for the Sekondi Constituency from 1992 to 1996. He served as Chief whip of the NDC in the first parliament of the fourth republic of Ghana. Also he served as the deputy Minister of Interior.
The Albert Bosomtwi-Sam Fishing Harbour is a harbour where fishing boats are tied up in Sekondi in the Western Region of Ghana. It along with the Tema Fishing Harbour are the only two fishing harbours in Ghana. It is operated by the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority. The fishing harbour is named after the late Hon. Albert Bosomtwi-Sam, in whose constituency the fishing harbour was built. Prior to the name change it was known as the Sekondi Fishing Port. The construction of the fishing harbour was started in 1988 by the Japanese Grant Aid Cooperation (JICA).
Kwaku Ofori Asiamah is a Ghanaian politician serving as Minister for Transport in Ghana under the cabinet of President Nana Akufo-Addo since February 2017.
Joseph Mensah is a Ghanaian politician and member of the Seventh Parliament of the Fourth Republic of Ghana representing the Kwesimintsim Constituency in the Western Region on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party.
Sandra Opoku is a Ghanaian lawyer. In 2019, after her appointment into office by Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, she became the first female director of the Tema Port. She was formerly the general manager for the legal division of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority.
General elections were held in Ghana on 7 December 2020. Incumbent President Nana Akufo-Addo of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) was re-elected in the first round after securing a majority of the votes. Former President John Dramani Mahama announced that he would contest the results. At the Supreme Court, a petition challenging the result was filed on 30 December, and unanimously dismissed on 4 March 2021 for lack of merit.
