The Tenby Open [1] was a men's and women's grass court tennis tournament founded in 1876 as the Tenby Lawn Tennis Club Tournament. In 1881 the event was re branded as the South Wales Championships. In 1885 a new open tournament was revived staged annually at the Tenby Lawn Club Tennis Club, Tenby, Pembrokeshire, South Wales. The tournament was staged annually until 1895 when it was discontinued.
In 1876 the Tenby Lawn Tennis Club Tournament was first staged at the Tenby Lawn Tennis Club, Tenby, Pembrokeshire, South Wales. [2] In 1881 the tournament changed its name to the South Wales Championships, and play was open to all residents who had resided for three months in all six southern counties of Wales. [3] In 1885 a new tournament was revived the Tenby Open. The tournament was staged annually until 1895 when it was discontinued.

Tennis Wales (Welsh: Tennis Cymru) is the national governing body for tennis in Wales. It is part of the British tennis governing body, the Lawn Tennis Association. It was founded as the Welsh Lawn Tennis Association (WLTA) in 1887.
The ATP Athens Open is a defunct Grand Prix and ATP Tour affiliated tennis tournament held annually in Athens in Greece from 1986 to 1994, played on outdoor clay courts at Athens Lawn Tennis Club. In 2008 the tournament was renewed under the new name of the Status Athens Open on the ATP Challenger Series, awarding $75,000 in prize money. The historical precursor event to this one was the Athens International Championships founded as the Greek International Championships in 1931, that ran as a combined men's and women's event until 1973. The men's tournament was revived one more time in 1981 then it was discontinued. It was also played at the Athens Lawn Tennis Club.
The 1881 men's tennis season was composed of the sixth annual pre-open era tour now incorporated 73 tournaments staged in Australia, Canada, Great Britain and Ireland, and the United States. The 1881 Wimbledon Championships was won by William Renshaw. This year also saw the inaugural and important 1881 U.S. National Championships held at Newport Casino which Richard Sears won. This was also the year that the United States National Lawn Tennis Association, which is the world's first national tennis association, was founded. Renshaw then won two other big tournaments of the year, the Irish Lawn Tennis Championships and Princes Club Championships, whilst Richard Taswell Richardson won the prestigious Northern Championships.

The Wimbledon Championships and Irish Championships was won by William Renshaw, the U.S. National Championships was won by Richard Sears collecting his second title other big winners were Richard Taswell Richardson picking up the Northern Lawn Tennis Championships and Ernest Renshaw winning the Princes Club Championships, The title leader this season was Robert W. Braddell winning 4 tournaments from 6 finals.
The 1883 men's tennis season was the eighth annual tennis season, consisting of 71 tournaments. The Wimbledon Championships was won by William Renshaw for the third consecutive year, while Richard Sears continued his dominance at the U.S. National Championships also winning a third successive title. Other big winners this season were Ernest Renshaw, picking up the Irish Championships, Herbert Wilberforce winning the Northern Lawn Tennis Championships in Manchester, and Herbert Lawford collecting his second and final title at the Princes Club Championships. The title leader this season was Charles Walder Grinstead winning 5 tournaments from 6 finals.
