Terry Alexandar Ejeh (born 27 July 1988) better known by his stage name Terry Apala, is a Nigerian Afrobeat, Hip-Hop and Apala (traditional Yoruba music) musician. [1]

Background and early career

Terry Apala was born and raised in Mushin, Lagos, Nigeria, where he was introduced to the diverse sounds of Nigerian music at an early age. [2] His musical interests were deeply influenced by the rhythmic and percussive nature of Apala music, a traditional genre associated with the Yoruba ethnic group. [3] His early musical experiences began in the church where he learned to play the drums and guitar, nurturing his passion for music.

Solo career

Terry left the group and decided to embark on a solo career. He released his debut mix trap "Champagne Shower" which launched him into the mainstream. [4] [5]

2017: Shape of You, Ed Sheeran cover

On 14 April 2017 he released a cover of Ed Sheeran's single "Shape of You". [6] The cover won him "Best Music Cover of the Year (International)" at the City People Music Award 2017. [7] That same year, he was nominated for "Apala Artiste of the Year". ` Terry was nominated Rookie of the Year at the 2016 The Headies Awards, [8] and "Most Promising Act to Watch" at the 2016 Nigeria Entertainment Awards. [9]

He was featured on Reminisce's 2016 song " Skit". [10]

Major Vibes EP (2020)

The self acclaimed King of Apala New Skool – Terry Apala releases his first music project titled "Major Vibes". [11] "Major Vibes" is a six (6) track extended play (EP) that was released on 13 August and features no other artiste but was released with the collaboration of music producer/serial hit-maker, Major Bangz who produced all the tracks in the EP.

The Headies is a music awards show established in 2006 by the Hip Hop World Magazine of Nigeria to recognize outstanding achievements in the Nigerian music industry. The annual ceremony features performances by established and promising artists. It is broadcast live on HipTV to viewers across Nigeria. The first and second editions of The Headies were held at the Muson Center in Onikan, Lagos State. Between 2010 and 2012, the awards were held at the Eko Hotel and Suites in Victoria Island, Lagos. Several media personalities in Nigeria have hosted the annual ceremony, including Darey Art Alade, D'banj, Dakore Egbuson, Banky W., Rita Dominic, M.I, Tiwa Savage and Dr SID.

Folarin Falana, better known by his stage name Falz, is a Nigerian rapper, songwriter, and actor. Falz gained wider recognition after releasing the song "Marry Me" featuring vocals from Poe and Yemi Alade.

Simisola Bolatito Kosoko, better known by her stage name Simi, is a Nigerian singer, songwriter, and actress. She started her career as a gospel singer, releasing her debut studio album in 2008, titled Ogaju. She also played as one of the top judges in season 7 of the Nigerian idol TV show in 2022. She gained public recognition in 2014 after releasing "Tiff", a song that was nominated for Best Alternative Song at The Headies 2015. Simi signed a record deal with X3M Music in 2014, but left the label in May 2019 following the expiration of her contract. She released her second studio album Simisola on September 8, 2017. Her third studio album Omo Charlie Champagne, Vol. 1 was released to coincide with her thirty-first birthday on April 19, 2019. She launched her record label Studio Brat in June 2019.

The Headies 2016 was the 11th edition of The Headies. It was held on December 22, 2016 at the Eko Convention Centre in Victoria Island, Lagos. Themed "Think, Create, Recreate." The event was hosted by Adesua Etomi and Falz. The nominees were announced by the award's organizers in November 2016. Tekno was nominated for the Next Rated award, but ended up being disqualified due to his refusal to honour the category and support the campaign. Jazzman Olofin and Adewale Ayuba jointly performed the song "Raise the Roof". Aramide performed her song "Funmi Lowo" with assistance from Ras Kimono. The ceremony also featured additional performances from Falz, 2Baba, Seyi Shay and Flavour. Olamide received eight nominations and won a total of four, including Best Rap Single for his single "Eyan Mayweather". Mr Eazi won the Next Rated category and was awarded a SUV at a later date. Mayorkun toppled Dice Ailes and Koker for the Rookie of the Year award. Laolu Akins was honored with the Hall of Fame award, while Flavour received the Special Recognition award.

Adekunle Temitope, better known by his stage name Small Doctor, is a Nigerian Fuji, afro-pop recording artist and performer. Small Doctor was preceded by the release of another single: "Penalty" which won award for the "Best Street Hop" at The Headies 2018. His songs are mostly composed in English, pidgin and Yoruba.
