The United States Armed Forces are the military forces of the United States. The armed forces consist of six service branches:the Army,Marine Corps,Navy,Air Force,Space Force,and Coast Guard. All six armed services are among the eight uniformed services of the United States,along with the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps and the NOAA Commissioned Officer Corps.
The director of national intelligence (DNI) is a senior cabinet-level United States government official,required by the Intelligence Reform and Terrorism Prevention Act of 2004 to serve as executive head of the United States Intelligence Community (IC) and to direct and oversee the National Intelligence Program (NIP). All IC agencies report directly to the DNI. The DNI also serves,upon invitation,as an advisor to the president of the United States,the National Security Council and the Homeland Security Council on all intelligence matters. The DNI,supported by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI),produces the President's Daily Brief (PDB),a classified document including intelligence from all IC agencies,handed each morning to the president of the United States.

Elizabeth Ann Hight is a retired United States Navy rear admiral who served as the vice director of the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA). She assumed this post in December 2007. In 2008,she was nominated for appointment to the grade of vice admiral and assignment as director,Defense Information Systems Agency;commander,Joint Task Force –Global Network Operations;and deputy commander,U.S. Strategic Command Global Network Operations and Defense,Arlington,Virginia. Her nomination was rejected by the Senate due to a perceived conflict of interest with her husband,retired Air Force Brigadier General Gary Salisbury,who is vice president of business development and sales for Northrop Grumman Corp.'s mission systems sector,defense mission systems division. She retired from the Navy in 2010.

The U.S. Fleet Cyber Command is an operating force of the United States Navy responsible for the Navy's information network operations,offensive and defensive cyber operations,space operations and signals intelligence. It was created in January 2010 "to deter and defeat aggression and to ensure freedom of action to achieve military objectives in and through cyberspace". U.S. Tenth Fleet was simultaneously reactivated as its force provider. Since it was founded,the command has grown into an operational force composed of more than 16,000 active and reserve sailors and civilians organized into 27 active commands,40 Cyber Mission Force units,and 27 reserve commands around the world.
Ted N. "Twig" Branch retired as a vice admiral in the United States Navy on 1 October 2016,after serving the last three years of his 37-year career as the Deputy Chief of Naval Operations for information warfare. In that capacity,he was the resource sponsor for the N2N6 portfolio which includes program investments for assured command and control,battlespace awareness,and integrated fires. He was the Navy's Chief Information Officer,the Director of Navy Cybersecurity,the leader of the Information Warfare Community,and the Director of Naval Intelligence. Branch was questioned by the Department of Justice regarding the Glenn Defense Marine Asia investigation in November 2013 and his access to classified information was suspended by the Secretary of the Navy. After a three-year investigation,Branch was cleared of all charges.
Linton Wells II is an American public servant and educator who served a total of 51 years in government service. He served 26 years in the United States Navy as an officer,and then was appointed by the President of the United States as the Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense,serving through two administrations of both parties,both the Democrat Bill Clinton and the Republican George W. Bush. He wrote many books,articles,and white papers on matters of national security,including important texts related to the use of American military capabilities in global humanitarian operations. His expertise focused on the strategic impacts of technological change and on building resilience to natural and man-made disasters as issues of US national security. He shaped,over five decades of public service,current US Department of Defense directives that link policy and technology with public-private cooperation. His writings significantly altered U.S. and international approaches to civil-military engagement,US policy in global humanitarian assistance,and global public-private partnerships in disaster relief. He has also made fundamental contributions to technical areas that have defined network-enabled military capabilities and cyberspace operations. After retiring from public service,he continued to contribute to the international STAR-TIDES network that he had founded in 2007,a consortium of several thousand global nodes comprising agencies,organizations,institutions and individuals in 40+ countries that promote the free exchange of research results on global issues of human security. As of 2024 he is Executive Advisor to the Center for Resilient and Sustainable Communities (C-RASC) at George Mason University and chairs the Advisory Group of the C4I and Cyber Center there. C-RASC has been working with the People-Centered Internet (PCI) on ways to “put humanity at the center of the Internet”and support a variety of revitalization initiatives. He is on the board of PCI,and also the President and CEO of Global Resilience Strategies and Senior Advisor to Resilient Japan. He was listed by Fortune magazine in 2009 as one of the top 16 "Players of Tech".
Jan Elizabeth Tighe is a retired United States Navy vice admiral who served as Deputy Chief of Naval Operations for Information Warfare and 66th Director of Naval Intelligence from July 15,2016 to July 2018. Prior to that,Tighe served as the Commander of the Tenth Fleet and Fleet Cyber Command. She became an independent director of Goldman Sachs in December 2018.
