Terry Mazany is an American philanthropist and administrator who served as president and CEO of the Chicago Community Trust and as interim CEO of Chicago Public Schools.
Mazany obtained master's degrees in both business administration and anthropology from the University of Arizona. [1]
Mazany became involved in education in the 1980s,citing the 1983 book A Nation at Risk as his inspiration for doing so. [2] Mazany has worked in public education for school districts in the cities of Baltimore,Chicago,Detroit,Oakland,and San Francisco. [1] For three years,he worked for the California School Leadership Academy.[ citation needed ] Mazany served as superintendent of curriculum and instruction for the Oakland Unified School District. [3]
In approximately the year 2000,Mazany moved from California to Chicago in order to work in the field of philanthropy there. [2] He began working for the Chicago Community Trust in 2001 as a senior program officer for their education fund. In this position,he led the planning an execution of the $50 million five-year commitment of the trust to support education and schools in the city. [1] From 2004 through 2011,he served as its president and chief executive officer. [4] He was only the sixth executive of the nonprofit in its century history. [5]
Chicago mayor Richard M. Daley had Mazany organize and lead the Recovery Partnership,which had involved in than 50 foundations in helping the distribution of more than $1 billion in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act in the city. [1] He held this role from 2009 through the following year,when the partnership ended its mission. [6]
In November 2010,Mayor Daley announced that he would be nominating Mazany to serve as the interim CEO of Chicago Public Schools,replacing Ron Huberman,who had announced that he would retire by November 29. [7] Mazany made it known that he had no intention of seeking the position permanently,and planned to have a short tenure,with a permanent CEO being named by May. [7] On November 17,the Chicago Board of Education passed a resolution to appoint Mazany as CEO,effective on November 30,2010. [8] Mazany's tenure ended in May 2011,when permanent CEO Jean-Claude Brizard took office. [9]
Mazany has also served in leadership rooms with the Smithsonian Science Education Center, [10] the National Assessment Governing Board (including a tenure as its chairman), [5] [11] and the Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta. [12]
Mazany has received honorary doctorates from DePaul University and Lewis University. [1]
Jane Margaret Byrne was an American politician who served as the 50th mayor of Chicago from April 16,1979,until April 29,1983. Prior to her tenure as mayor,Byrne served as Chicago's commissioner of consumer sales from 1969 until 1977,the only female in the mayoral cabinet.

Forrest Edward Claypool is an American politician who has held several positions in the governments of Chicago,Cook County,and the State of Illinois. He was the Chief Executive Officer of Chicago Public Schools from July 27,2015,until December 8,2017. Previous offices held by Claypool include Superintendent of the Chicago Park District from 1993 to 1998,Chief of Staff to Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel,and President of the Chicago Transit Authority. In 2007–2008,Claypool served as a key member of Barack Obama campaign's media team,in his capacity as a longtime partner of David Axelrod.

He served as the superintendent of the Bridgeport Public Schools in Connecticut and the Recovery School District of Louisiana,the CEO of both the School District of Philadelphia and the Chicago Public Schools,and a budget director for the city of Chicago.

During his tenure,the Chicago Urban League refocused its interest in education and economic development and developed a new emphasis on community empowerment. Ron Huberman is an American entrepreneur and current CEO/Co-Founder of Benchmark Analytics,a provider of an evidenced-based public safety management system,featuring early warning and intervention analytics software for law enforcement agencies throughout the U.S. He spent 16 years in Chicago city government,with the first nine years in the Chicago Police Department. He started as a beat cop,advancing to Assistant Deputy Superintendent,where he created one of the country’s most advanced policing technology systems,including community-based strategies to help decrease crime on the streets. He also headed up Chicago’s Office of Emergency Management and Communications,bringing rapid change to that agency following the September 11 attacks on America. He is also the former chief executive officer and superintendent of Chicago Public Schools (2009–2010). Prior to heading the CPS,Huberman served as president of the Chicago Transit Authority.
The Chicago Annenberg Challenge (CAC) was a Chicago public school reform project from 1995 to 2001 that worked with half of Chicago's public schools and was funded by a $49.2 million,2-to-1 matching challenge grant over five years from the Annenberg Foundation. The grant was contingent on being matched by $49.2 million in private donations and $49.2 million in public money. The Chicago Annenberg Challenge was one of 18 locally designed Annenberg Challenge project sites that received $387 million over five years as part of Walter Annenberg's gift of $500 million over five years to support public school reform. The Chicago Annenberg Challenge helped create a successor organization,the Chicago Public Education Fund (CPEF),committing $2 million in June 1998 as the first donor to Chicago's first community foundation for education.

Jean-Claude Brizard is an American former school superintendent. He served as chief executive officer of Chicago Public Schools from 2011 to 2012. Directly before coming to Chicago,Brizard served as the superintendent of the Rochester City School District. Brizard is best known as an education reformer,a strong charter school advocate and a champion of labor reform,particularly in regards to limiting teacher tenure status. Brizard started his career as a teacher,then an administrator,in the New York School System. He now works part time as a consultant for education reform organizations in America but primarily focuses on raising his children.
John Andrew Tompkins is an American educator in Kansas. Prior to his previous post at Wichita State University,he served as interim president at Fort Hays State,as well as the president of the Kansas Board of Regents from 2010 to 2015. Tompkins was a professor and dean at Pittsburg State University two different times,and served as a superintendent of three different Kansas school districts.
