Thakkalapalli Purushothama Rao (born 20 March 1937) is an Indian politician. He was the cabinet minister for Roads, Buildings and Ports, Government of Andhra Pradesh from 1993 to 1994. [1] Presently he is the Chairman for High Power Committee on Remote Interior Area Development. [2]

Early life and political career

Rao was born in an affluent royal family on 20 March 1937 in Konkapaka village of Warangal district, Hyderabad State. At twenty-five he was elected as the Wardhannapet Samithi President. Later, he was elected to the 4th and 5th assembly from Wardhannapet constituency. [3] In 1989 he was elected from Warangal constituency. [4] In 1969, Rao unveiled Telangana map in the state assembly and he was for outright separation during the 1969 Telangana movement and he supported the student views. [5] In the year 1972, all candidates belonging to STPS under the leadership of M Sridhar Reddy contested the assembly elections, however, only Mr.Rao got elected from Wardhannapet constituency of Warangal District and rest were defeated. [6]

Peace Talks with the Maoists in 2004

Rao was instrumental in persuading Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy to have peace talks with maoists and was the government representative during the peace talks. The AICC has made him the chairman of Gandhipatham of APCC to propagate the ideals of Gandhiji, in intellectual circles he is called Gandhian Marxist [7]

The Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Open University honored Rao with Doctorate in 2008 for his service to the society.[ citation needed ]

Reddy died in office on 12 March 2017 after a massive heart attack at his home in Allagadda.

1969 Telangana Agitation

1969 Telangana Agitation was a political movement for the statehood for Telangana region. The first person to raise the issue of Telangana happened in 1968 during October or November timeframe. A hunger strike was being carried on by a person named Ravindranath on 1969/January/08 in Khammam near the Railway Station. He was on an indefinite fast and his prime demand was to implement Telangana safeguards. One other demand was his insistence on implemention of Gentleman's agreement. It is a major event in Telangana movement. In the indiscriminate police firing, 369 Telangana students were killed.

Pre-2004 Telangana protests

The Pre-2004 Telangana protests refers to the movements and agitations related to the Telangana movement that took place before the year 2004. Andhra state and Telangana was merged to form Andhra Pradesh state on 1 November 1956 after providing safeguards to Telangana in the form of Gentlemen's agreement. Soon after the formation of Andhra Pradesh, people of Telangana expressed dissatisfaction over how the agreements and guarantees were implemented. Protests initially led by students latet under the leadership of newly formed political party Telangana Praja Samithi, led by M. Chenna Reddy and Konda Lakshman Bapuji, a minister who resigned from the cabinet led by then Chief Minister Kasu Brahmananda Reddy, demanding the formation of a separate state of Telangana. More than three hundred people died in police firing. Under the Mulki rules in force at the time, anyone who had lived in Hyderabad for 15 years was considered a local, and was thus eligible for certain government posts. When the Supreme Court upheld the Mulki rules at the end of 1972, the Jai Andhra movement, with the aim of re-forming a separate state of Andhra, was started in Coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema regions.

2004–2010 Telangana protests

The Telangana protests 2004-2010 refers to the movements and agitations related to the Telangana movement that took place between the years 2004 and 2010. For the 2004 Assembly and Parliament elections, the Congress party and the TRS had an electoral alliance in the Telangana region to consider the demand of separate Telangana State. However, again in 2006, the then Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy categorically said that the state would remain united. This again resulted in statewide protests. In 2009, Union Minister of Home Affairs P. Chidambaram announced that the Indian government would start the process of forming a separate Telangana state, pending the introduction and passage of a separation resolution in the Andhra Pradesh assembly after an 11-day fast by Kalvakuntla Chandrashekar Rao. This again resulted in protests across both Andhra and Rayalseema as in a short time of the Home Minister's declaration, MLAs from the Coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema regions submitted their resignations in protest.

Dasyam Vinay Bhaskar is an Indian politician and Member of Legislative Assembly in Telangana representing Telangana Rashtra Samithi a.k.a. T.R.S and Government Chief Whip of Telangana State Legislative Assembly. He represents the Warangal West assembly constituency. He was also the Parliamentary Secretary in-charge of Chief Minister's Office (CMO) for TRS party during 2015.

S. Madhusudhana Chary Indian politician and legislator

Sirikonda Madusudhana Chary is an Indian politician and legislator who was the first Speaker of Telangana Legislative Assembly from 2014 to 2019. He won from Bhupalapalli constituency in Warangal in 2014 general elections. He is the former MLA of Bhupalapalli Constuency from 2018 Assembly Elections. Chandupatla Janga Reddy is an Indian politician and member of the Bharatiya Janata Party.He was elected to the 8th Lok Sabha, the lower house of the Parliament of India from Hanamkonda, Andhra Pradesh defeating the future Prime Minister P. V. Narasimha Rao in 1984.

Hanamkonda was an assembly constituency in Telangana state of India, then part of united Andhra Pradesh. During 2009 delimitation exercise the constituency was bifurcated into Warangal West and Warangal East. This constituency was created in 1978 originally from the earlier united Warangal and existed between 1978 and 2009 elections.
