Thaneswar Basumatary is a Bodoland People's Front politician from Assam. He was elected in the Assam Legislative Assembly election in 2016 from Chapaguri constituency. Previously, he has been MLA from the same constituency in 2006 from Bodoland People's Front . [1] [2] [3] [4]

Background

He was born to father, Lt. Golak Basumatary, and mother, Lt. Thaoni Basumatary in Barpam Village. He completed his schooling from Barpam Gudi Poraisali and Chapaguri Kolklabari ME & High School. His highest qualification is Bachelor of Science. After his graduation, he served as a science teacher in Chapaguri Kolklabari ME & High School before contesting his first Assam Legislative Assembly election in the year 2006. His hobbies include football, volleyball, and carrom. He is has been married since 1990 to Smt. Rajo Basumatary and have 3 children together (2 sons and a daughter). He contests from 63 No. Chapaguri (ST) constituency and represents Bodoland People's Front at the Assam Legislative Assembly.

This place practices organic farming as well as modern agriculture, following recent scientific developments.

Urkhao Gwra Brahma is an Indian politician, a poet and a leader of United People's Party Liberal who is serving as the Minister for Handloom, Textile & Sericulture, Soil Conservation and Welfare of Bodoland Department, Government of Assam in the Sarma ministry since 2021.He represents the Chapaguri constituency in the Assam Legislative Assembly since 2021. He was a former Member of the Parliament of India representing Assam in the Rajya Sabha from 2002 to 2008 as an Independent candidate. The 2015 Bodoland Territorial Council election was held on Wednesday, 8 April 2015 to elect the 3rd council of the Bodoland Territorial Area Districts. All 40 seats in the legislative assembly were set up for election. Bodoland People's Front won the election for the third consecutive term by winning 20 seats and 28.5 percent of the votes. BPF also lost 11 seats in contrast to the last election in which they won 31 seats.
