The Ballpark at America First Square is a baseball stadium under construction in South Jordan, Utah, United States, which is scheduled to open in spring 2025. [1] It will be the home of the Triple-A Salt Lake Bees of the Pacific Coast League.
In May 2023, Miller Sports + Entertainment (MSE) released renderings of The Ballpark at America First Square. The stadium was designed by HOK and it is being built by Okland Construction. [5]
The Ballpark is designed to meet the requirements of Major League Baseball teams. Its design includes a 12,000-sq.-ft. clubhouse, training and player development areas, and multiple batting cages. [5] It will be the home of the Triple-A Salt Lake Bees of the Pacific Coast League. [4] The ballpark will replace the Bees' former home, Smith's Ballpark, where the team has played since its founding in 1994. [6]
By October 17, 2024, the playing grass was fully installed. [7] The right and left field walls are 345 ft (105 m) feet away from the home plate as measured along the foul line. The distance from home plate to the center field wall is 420 ft (130 m) feet. The field is oriented east to provide a view of the Wasatch Mountains. [2]
The Ballpark is smaller than the Bees' former home stadium. It seats 8,000 people. Smith's Ballpark has a seating capacity roughly double this amount. The Ballpark also has a much heavier emphasis on premium seating. [8]
The area immediately surrounding the stadium is dedicated too the construction of 900 apartments, 100,000 square feet of office space, and 75,000 square feet of retail space. [9]
The Utah Transit Authority has announced a new station on the TRAX Red Line to serve the stadium. The City of South Jordan, the Utah Department of Transportation, and the Larry H. Miller Company aim to reduce the impact of the stadium on local traffic. Access points are being constructed to allow cars to enter the stadium's parking lot from Mountain View Corridor. “Texas U-Turns” will allow drivers to make a U-turn without having to pass through intersections with traffic lights. Trails are planned to encourage access via foot and bicycle. [10]
The stadium is a privately funded venture by Miller Sports + Entertainment, owners of the Bees. The cost of the stadium is $140 million. [1] It is part of a larger mixed-use entertainment district within the master-planned Daybreak Community, which is expected to take more than 15 years to complete. [11] [9]
