The Beast Will Rise is a series of monologues written by Philip Ridley.

The monologues were performed online by the cast of Ridley's play The Beast of Blue Yonder, which was scheduled to be performed at The Southwark Playhouse on 2 April 2020 but was cancelled as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. [1] [2]

Five of the monologues from The Beast Will Rise were performed together live at The New Normal Festival in Wandsworth on 18 August. [3]

Glitter in the Dark competition

From June - July 2020 the company producing The Beast Will Rise, Tramp Productions, ran a competition for actors to star in one of the monologues as part of the series. The winner would also receive a £150 cash prize. [4]

The competition was open to "Anyone graduating from a drama school or other acting training in 2020" and "d/Deaf and disabled actors at the start of their careers regardless of [actor training]". [5] Entrants were required to submit a footage of themselves performing a 1-2 minute extract of any of the monologues from that had been released up to that point. [6]

On 25 July Tramp Productions on their Twitter account announced that the winner of the competition was the 2020 Mountview graduate Yanexi Enriquez. [7]

<i>The Storyteller Sequence</i>

The Storyteller Sequence is a series of one act dramas written for young people by Philip Ridley. The plays, all set in east London, use fairytale stories and theatrical conventions to reveal the traumas of their young protagonists. To date there are five plays in the sequence, although Ridley has intimated there will eventually be seven. The five written to date are Karamazoo, Fairytaleheart, Moonfleece, Sparkleshark and Brokenville; note that although this is not the order in which the plays were written and performed chronologically, it is the order Ridley intends the finished "sequence" to run.

<i>Piranha Heights</i>

Piranha Heights is a one act play by Philip Ridley. It is Ridley's seventh stage play for adults and premiered at the Soho Theatre, London in 2008. The production was the second collaboration between Ridley and Soho Theatre Artistic Director Lisa Goldman whom Ridley dedicated the play to in his preface of the published text. The play also featured Luke Treadaway in one of his earliest professional stage credits, who along with actor John Macmillan was filmed for Ridley's 2009 horror film Heartless, during the play's original run.

Philip Hill-Pearson is a British actor. He trained at East 15 Acting School, graduating in 2009. Shortly after graduating from the drama school, he was cast as Bruce Donnelly in the comedy drama series Shameless. The Fastest Clock in the Universe is a two act play by Philip Ridley. It was Ridley's second stage play and premiered at the Hampstead Theatre, London on 14 May 1992 and featured Jude Law in his first paid theatre role, playing the part of Foxtrot Darling. The production was the second collaboration between Ridley and director Matthew Lloyd, who would go on to direct the original productions for the majority of Ridley's plays until the year 2001.
