The Lords of Discipline is a 1980 novel by Pat Conroy that was later adapted in a 1983 film of the same name.

My Losing Season is a memoir by Pat Conroy. It primarily deals with his senior season as the starting point guard on the basketball team of The Citadel in 1966–67. Conroy describes his tumultuous relationship with his coach, Mel Thompson, as well as the harsh, malevolent, male-dominated society of The Citadel. Pat Conroy tells the story using flashbacks going back to his rough childhood where he remembers growing up with a tough father. He describes one memory when his mother tried to stab his father with a butcher knife and his father backhanded her and started laughing. The book also deals with the team's experience of losing. In his final season, his team finished with an 8–17 record.
Edward S. Conroy is an American college basketball coach who is currently serving his second stint as the head coach of The Citadel Bulldogs. He previously served as the associate head coach for the Vanderbilt Commodores and as an assistant coach for the Minnesota Golden Gophers. Conroy is a former head men's basketball coach at Tulane University, being hired in April 2010. Conroy was officially relieved of his duties as Tulane head coach on March 14, 2016.

The Regimental Band and Pipes was founded on the Citadel campus in Charleston, South Carolina, in 1909, with marine general Harry K. Pickett in command. The marching band makes up one of the twenty-one companies of the South Carolina Corps of Cadets. In 1991, the band participated in the Edinburgh Military Tattoo in Scotland, becoming the first military college selected for the honor. They returned in 2010 as the only unit from the United States to appear at the Silver Jubilee of the Tattoo and appeared again in 2015 and 2024.
