The City That Sleeps is the debut studio album by alternative rock band A Silent Film. First released in the UK, it was followed up with a US version two years later containing two alternate tracks for American audiences.
The City That Sleeps was received with mixed critical acclaim. The original UK version of the album, produced by Sam Williams, [1] contains 11 tracks, including their single "You Will Leave a Mark." This single was number one in the Sunday Times Culture magazine's 'Hottest Downloads' chart. [2] The album was compared to the music of bands such as Coldplay and reviewers described it as 'catchy and accessible.' It is this comparison that saddled the band with the piano rock label. [3]
After the album's release the band toured, visiting places such as Portugal where they quickly became popular. [4] After a matter of weeks, "You Will Leave A Mark" reached the top of the Portuguese download singles charts, followed by the album soon after. [5]
In advance of the US release, the alternative rock music station Alt Nation on SiriusXM Satellite Radio began to play "You Will Leave A Mark" in April 2010. The song soon made it onto the station's Alt 18 Most Requested Song Countdown, debuting on the 5/1/2010 Countdown at #14. [6] It would ultimately reach #1 and remain on the Countdown for 30 weeks, making it the longest running song to chart. This honor would be held until Foster the People's "Pumped Up Kicks" eventually surpassed it.
The band toured the US in September and December 2010, then performed almost daily from March 10 through April 8, 2011 in support of the album. The latter run was as support for Civil Twilight. In July, A Silent Film did a mini-tour of the West Coast. [7] New material was presented at these shows which would ultimately wind up on the band's sophomore release, Sand & Snow . These included: "Cuckoo Song," "Harbour Lights," and "Let Them Feel Your Heartbeat." "Snowbirds" (later named "Where Have the Snowbirds Flown") was also showcased, but would be a non LP b-side to the album's lead single, "Danny, Dakota and the Wishing Well," and would later appear on the deluxe edition of Sand & Snow.

"Feel Good Drag" became the first single from New Surrender, which was the band's first album on major label Universal Republic. It was intended for release to American radio stations on August 18, 2008, however after a week-long delay it was released on August 26, 2008.

One critic has said that A Silent Film's style "distinctly echoes" Coldplay, Snow Patrol and The Killers. Their latest album, A Silent Film, was released in October 2015.
The Griswolds are an Australian two-piece indie rock band from Sydney, Australia. "Sirens" is a song by the American alternative rock band Pearl Jam. It was released on September 18, 2013 as a digital download as the second single from their tenth studio album Lightning Bolt. In its first week of release, the single sold 13,000 downloads in the US. Guitarist Mike McCready said the song was inspired by Roger Waters's The Wall Live Tour, when after attending a concert in 2011, he "wanted to write something that would have a Pink Floyd type feel". The lyrics by singer Eddie Vedder concern his worries on mortality and what the future holds for the next generation.
Magic Man was a two-piece major label electronic rock band from Boston, formed in 2010 by Alex Caplow (vocals) and Sam Lee. They later added high school friend Gabe Goodman (bass) and college friends Justine Bowe (keyboards) and Joey Sulkowski (drums), enabling the New England-based group to become a full-fledged band. They released the EP You Are Here in September 2013, followed by their first major full-length release, Before the Waves, on July 8, 2014, under Columbia Records. He initially gained recognition for winning the Glastonbury Festival's Emerging Talent Competition in 2015. McKenna self-released the song "Brazil", a protest song criticising FIFA and the 2014 FIFA World Cup held in Brazil, as his debut single in December 2014. The song reached number one on Sirius XM Radio's Alt Nation Alt 18 Countdown for 23 January 2016 and held that spot for three weeks. The song also reached number 16 on the U.S. Billboard Alternative Songs chart. He released his debut studio album, What Do You Think About the Car?, on 21 July 2017. McKenna released his second studio album, Zeros, on September 4, 2020, after multiple delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
