The Correspondents were a British electro swing duo based in London, formed by vocalist and MC Mr. Bruce and producer Tim Cole in 2007. [2]

Contents

Their music has been described as electro swing with a mixture of early 20th century jazz and electro and drum and bass. [3] Their live shows and recorded music consisted of multi-genre dance music spanning blues, jazz, soul, funk and out and out electro pop. [4]

The band played at major festivals such as WOMAD, [5] Glastonbury, [6] Bestival, [7] Boomtown and Secret Garden Party. [8]

Their song "Fear and Delight" was used as the theme tune to BBC Three comedy Crims .

The project was retired on 20 October 2020 after Bruce published a status on The Correspondents' Facebook page stating that Cole had died unexpectedly of a pulmonary embolism a few days prior. [9] [10]

Awards and recognition

The band was included in The Telegraph's top 10 Glastonbury highlights two years in a row [11] [12] and has also been featured in Rob da Bank's 2-hour Electro Swing Special on BBC Radio 1. [13]

The music video to their single "Fear & Delight", directed by Naren Wilks, was the overall winner of Berlin Music Video Awards 2014, while it also won the award for "Best VFX" category. [14] [15]

Norman Quentin Cook, also known by his stage name Fatboy Slim, is an English musician, DJ, and record producer who helped to popularise the big beat genre in the 1990s. In the 1980s, Cook was the bassist for the Hull-based indie rock band the Housemartins, who achieved a UK number-one single with their a cappella cover of "Caravan of Love". After the Housemartins split up, Cook formed the electronic band Beats International in Brighton, who produced the number-one single "Dub Be Good to Me". Pendulum is an Australian electronic rock band founded in 2002. Pendulum originally formed in the city of Perth, Western Australia, by Rob Swire, Gareth McGrillen and Paul "El Hornet" Harding. The band was later expanded to include members Ben Mount, Peredur ap Gwynedd and KJ Sawka. The group is notable for its distinctive sound, mixing electronic music with hard rock and covering a wide range of genres.

Swami is a British Indian electronic music/ bhangra/ world music act from Birmingham, England. "Swami" is also the pseudonym of the DJ producer Diamond Duggal. Swami currently performs as a hybrid electronic DJ act with special world music guests and collaborations including Deep Forest and PunjabTronix.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">The Puppini Sisters</span>

The Puppini Sisters are an English close harmony vocal trio composed of Italian-born singer Marcella Puppini and English singers Kate Mullins and Emma Smith. Although the three are not related, the name was chosen in tribute to the Andrews Sisters. They are known for providing guest vocals on Michael Bublé's cover of "Jingle Bells". Puppini first studied fashion design at Saint Martins School of Art, and later music at Trinity College of Music in London where she met Mullins and original member Rosanna Schura, who was later replaced by Stephanie O'Brien. After eight years with the group, O'Brien was replaced by Emma Smith. The trio are backed by a three-piece band featuring Martin Kolarides on guitar, Henrik Jensen on double bass and Peter Ibbetson on drums. The group is associated with a burlesque revival.

John E Vistic is also lead guitarist with James Ray and the Blackhearted Riders, most recently touring and playing on their album Broken Glass & Bullet Holes (2018). James Ray is known for his work with Gang War and The Sisters of Mercy.

Ian Bruce is a painter and the former lead singer in the DJ/MC duo The Correspondents. He is currently the singer of a solo musical project alongside producer Angus Kemp likewise named "Mr. Bruce". Ian Bruce is also known for his creative music videos and eccentric dancing both onstage and in his music videos.

The Men That Will Not Be Blamed for Nothing are an English punk band from London formed in 2008. Their name is a reference to the chalked graffiti discovered above a section of blood-stained apron thought to have been discarded by Jack the Ripper as he fled the scene of Catherine Eddowes's murder. They describe themselves as "Crusty punk meets cockney sing-songs meets grindcore in the 1880s." Initially associated with the steampunk movement, they have since sought to broaden their sound and distance themselves from the tag, incorporating elements of death metal, hardcore punk, the new wave of British heavy metal, thrash, black metal, goth, stand up comedy and music hall. Their songs are usually set in the Victorian era but can often be read as allegory for the present day.

The Electric Swing Circus are a six-piece electro swing band based in Birmingham, England. The line up features Vicki Olivia (vocals), Fe Salomon (vocals), Tom Hyland (guitar), Rashad Gregory and Patrick Wreford. The Electric Swing Circus formed in June 2011. The band's preview EP, Penniless Optimist, was released in September 2011, and their debut album "Electric Swing Circus" in May 2013. They released their second album "It Flew By" in January 2017. They released their third album "Pleasure Seekers" in March 2022.

Disclosure are an English electronic music duo consisting of brothers Howard and Guy Lawrence. They grew up in Reigate, Surrey. Their debut studio album, Settle, released on 3 June 2013, by PMR Records, was nominated for Best Dance/Electronica Album at the 2014 Grammy Awards. They released a second studio album, Caracal, on 25 September 2015 which was also nominated for Best Dance/Electronic Album at the 2016 Grammy Awards. Swingamajig is an annual music festival that takes place in Birmingham, West Midlands, England. It is the UK's first one-day urban festival dedicated to electro swing, Gypsy folk and vintage sounds. Swingamajig "takes the sounds and styles of the 1920s and brings them up to date with a modern twist, bringing together several thousand of the best dressed ladies and gents to party like it is 1929". First held in May 2013, Swingamajig Festival comprises elements of live music, DJ sets, film, art, dance and circus performances across four diverse stages.
