The Diggers Rest Hotel (2010) is a crime novel by Australian author Geoffrey McGeachin. It is the first in the author's Charlie Berlin mystery series and won the 2011 Ned Kelly Award.
Charlie Berlin, a bomber pilot during World War II, rejoins the Melbourne police force after the war and in 1947 he is sent to Albury-Wodonga to investigate a series of violent robberies.
Fair Dinkum Crime found the novel to build to be a winner and that the author "has taken care with the historical detail and it gives the novel a great feeling of authenticity". [1]
True History of the Kelly Gang is a novel by Australian writer Peter Carey, based loosely on the history of the Kelly Gang. The Diggers Rest Hotel is an early hotel on the original route to the Bendigo goldfields in the town of Diggers Rest, Victoria, Australia. It was originally built in 1854 and is one of the few Mount Alexander Road goldrush wayside hotels known to survive. A blacksmith and wheelwright shop, and also Cobb & Co stables were established behind the hotel to provide facilities for travellers.
