The first Guide meeting in Barbados was held on 30 November 1918 at Government House, Saint Michael. Thereafter, units for Brownies, Rangers, and Blossom Guides were introduced. Most of the Units are based at Primary and Secondary Schools, however, there are some Units based at Headquarters and at several Churches. The programs of the Association cater to girls and young women between 4 and 25 years.
Its Headquarters is located at "Pax Hill", Belmont Road, Saint Michael, Barbados, and is very close to Bridgetown.
Program
The Association is divided into two sections with five sub-sections according to age:
Junior Section:
Blossom Guides- ages 4 to 7
Brownie Guides – ages 7 to 11
Senior Section:
Girl Guides – ages 10 to 16
Ranger Guides – ages 14 to 25
Young Leaders – ages 16 to 23
Organisation
The organization is divided into four divisions and eight districts. Each division and district is headed by a commissioner.
The council is the general management committee made up of district commissioners inclusive of the executive and all other sub-management teams. The executive committee is a sub committee of the council and responsible for the overall management of the organisation.
Scouting, also known as the Scout Movement, is a worldwide youth social movement employing the Scout method, a program of informal education with an emphasis on practical outdoor activities, including camping, woodcraft, aquatics, hiking, backpacking, and sports. Another widely recognized movement characteristic is the Scout uniform, by intent hiding all differences of social standing in a country and encouraging equality, with neckerchief and campaign hat or comparable headwear. Distinctive uniform insignia include the fleur-de-lis and the trefoil, as well as merit badges and other patches.
Cub Scouts, Cubs or Wolf Cubs are programmes associated with Scouting for young children usually between 7 and 12, depending on the organisation to which they belong. A participant in the programme is called a Cub. A group of Cubs is called a "Pack".
Junák – český skaut, is the internationally recognized organization of Scouts and Guides of the Czech Republic. Founded in 1911, Junák – český skaut is the largest organisation of children and youth in the nation, with a membership of 73,315.
The Singapore Scout Association ("SSA") was founded in 1910, two years after the Scout Movement was launched by Robert Baden-Powell in Great Britain. This makes it the oldest established youth movement in Singapore.
Girlguiding is the operating name of The Guide Association, previously named The Girl Guides Association. It is the national guiding organisation of the United Kingdom. It is the UK's largest girl-only youth organisation. Girlguiding is a charitable organisation.
Slovenský skauting, is the primary national Scouting and Guiding organization of Slovakia. Currently has around 7000 members. With 3,157 Scouts and about 3,000 Guides. Slovenský Skauting is the largest youth organization in Slovakia and a member of both the World Organization of the Scout Movement and the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts.
Scouts of Syria is the national Scout and Guide organization of Syria. Scouting in Syria was founded in 1912; Guiding started in the 1950s. The coeducational association serves 9,358 members and is a member of both the World Organization of the Scout Movement and the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts.
The Bharat Scouts and Guides (BSG) is the national Scouting and Guiding association of India. The national headquarters of BSG is recognised by the Government of India.
Girl Guides of Canada is the national Guiding association of Canada. Guiding in Canada started on September 7, 1910, and GGC was among the founding members of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) in 1928.
The Scout Association of Trinidad and Tobago is the national Scouting organization of Trinidad and Tobago. Scouting was founded in Trinidad and Tobago in 1912 and became a member of the World Organization of the Scout Movement in 1963. The association has 5,234 members.
The Malta Girl Guides Association (MGGA) is the national Guiding association of Malta. Guiding in Malta started in 1918 and the association became a member of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) in 1966. The girls-only association has 1,337 members.
A Scout group is a local organizational structure in some Scouting organizations that consists of different age programs, gender units and/or multiple units of the same age program.
GirlGuiding New Zealand is the national Guiding organisation in New Zealand. GirlGuiding New Zealand currently splits New Zealand into 8 regions around the country with approximately 10,000 members.
The Girl Guides Association of Antigua and Barbuda is the Guiding organization of Antigua and Barbuda. It serves 718 members. Founded in 1931, the girls-only organization became an associate member of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts in 1984 and a full member in 2002.
The Guyana Girl Guides Association (GGGA) is the national Guiding organization of Guyana. It serves 3,719 members. Founded in 1922, the girls-only organization became a full member of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts in 1969.
The Samoa Girl Guides Association is the national Guiding organization of Samoa. It serves 186 members. Founded in 1952, the girls-only organization became an associate member of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts in 1996. Its WAGGGS membership was cancelled in 2008.
A Ranger or Ranger Guide is a member of a section of some Guiding organisations who is between the ages of 14 and 18. It is the female-centred equivalent of the Rover Scouts.
The Girl Guides Association of Dominica (GGAD) is the national Guiding organization of Dominica. It serves 376 members. Founded in 1929, the girls-only organization became an associate member of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts in 1987 and a full member in 2008. At present there are eight districts in Dominica comprising 27 units.
The Girl Guides Association of Grenada (GGAG) is the national guiding organization of Grenada. It serves 2288 members as of 2012. Founded in November 1925, at the Anglican High School, the girls-only organization became an associate member of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) in 1990. It became a full member in 2011 at the 34th World Conference - Edinburgh, Scotland, United Kingdom, 11–15 July 2011.
Girlguiding Scotland is part of the worldwide Guiding movement. It is the country's largest voluntary organisation for girls and young women with 61,375 members in 3,500 units throughout Scotland.
