The Hathaways is a fictional historical romance book series written by American novelist Lisa Kleypas. [1] [2]
It consists of six books:
The novels were written and completed between 2007 and 2010. The series features 10 main characters: Leo (Lord Ramsay), Amelia, Win, Poppy, Beatrix, Cam, Merippen, Mr. Rutledge, Miss Marks (née Wigens), and Captain Phelan, who come to be related to each other by blood or marriage and form the Hathaway family. [7] [1] In 2013, Macmillan Publishers released a "Complete Series" ebook containing five of the novels, without A Hathaway Wedding. [8]
The series is set mostly in Victorian England but also goes back to the Regency era. Spanning a period of over 20 years, the series systematically covers the childhoods of most of its main characters (which is sometimes shown as the reason for some of their actions) to the present, and including dark periods in their past. In general, although being a part of the English and Irish nobilities, and possessing wealth, the family is generally considered socially different, and sometimes even outcast, by most members of society due to the lack of adherence to the laws of etiquette; generally not keeping to the norms governing the English social settings and hierarchies at the time. [1] [9]
The Hathaways series is a sequel series to Kleypas' Wallflower series, and prequel to the Ravenels series. [10] [11] Each of the books in the series highlights how each of the five Hathaway siblings, starting with Amelia and ending with Beatrix, get married, and portrays the circumstance and people that they had to overcome to be with their true love. [12] [9] [1]
The series has been praised by its readers due to the author drawing out and defining the character of each book's main characters. [13] [14] [15]
