Uncle Tom's Bungalow is an American Merrie Melodies animated cartoon directed by Tex Avery, and released to theatres on June 5, 1937 by Warner Bros. The short cartoon is a parody of the 1852 novel Uncle Tom's Cabin and of the "plantation melodrama" genre of the 1930s. It contains many stereotypical portrayals of black characters. The cartoon plays off Harriet Beecher Stowe's novel in that it portrays Uncle Tom as an old man, and wooden shacks and cotton fields pervade the scenery. Director Tex Avery adds his own sense of humor and "trickster" animation, giving the classic theme a modern, humorous twist.
Red Dust is a 1932 American pre-Code romantic drama film directed by Victor Fleming, and starring Clark Gable, Jean Harlow, and Mary Astor. It is based on the 1928 play of the same name by Wilson Collison, and was adapted for the screen by John Mahin. Red Dust is the second of six movies Gable and Harlow made together. More than 20 years later, Gable starred in a remake, Mogambo (1953), with Ava Gardner starring in a variation on the role Harlow played and Grace Kelly playing a part similar to one portrayed by Astor in Red Dust.
Vacherie is an unincorporated community in St. James Parish, Louisiana, United States. It is part of the New Orleans Metropolitan Area. The name of the place derives from the French word for cowshed. On the SW side of the community is the 1,969 ft (600 m) WZRH/KVDU-Tower, a guyed mast noted as the tallest tower in the state of Louisiana.

Their story is read from a notebook in the present day by an elderly man, telling the tale to a fellow nursing home resident.

Uncle Jasper's Will is a 1922 race film directed, produced and written by Oscar Micheaux. The film is a drama about the contents of a last will and testament left behind by an African-American sharecropper who was lynched after being falsely accused of the murder of a white plantation owner. The film was intended as a sequel to Micheaux’s landmark feature Within Our Gates (1920).

The Kid from Kansas is a 1941 American drama set on a fictional island banana plantation owned by Juan Garcia Pancho. Foreman Andy befriends newcomer Kansas, but Pancho is leery of the stranger. Sabotage and seemingly bad luck befall Pancho and the other island plantation owners, coincidentally at the same time Kansas arrives on the scene. Fruit dealer Lee Walker announces a drop in prices. Before it can be taken to market, Pancho's entire crop is burned by an arsonist, and a plantation worker dies in the fire. The railroad tracks are destroyed and the workers call for a strike. Someone deliberately introduces an imported strain of banana fungus on all the plantations. Pancho is certain Kansas is involved. As things go from bad to worse, it is revealed that the chain of events were engineered by Walker, and that Kansas is a special undercover agent sent to investigate.
