The Laughing Stock of Indie Rock is the fourth studio album by Solex. [3] It was released via Arena Rock Recording Company on September 28, 2004. [1]

Elisabeth Esselink, known by her stage name Solex, is a Dutch musician based in Amsterdam. Her music is a light-hearted amalgamation of pop music, electronica and sampling.

Arena Rock Recording Company is an independent record label based in Portland, Oregon. Albums are distributed by Redeye in the United States and Koch in Canada.

Reception

Heather Phares of AllMusic gave the album 3.5 stars out of 5, calling it "[Solex's] most straightforward, accessible collection of songs yet." [1] Zeth Lundy of PopMatters said, "Solex does not write orthodox songs or function as an acceptable DJ for your next house party." [2] He added, "The Laughing Stock of Indie Rock falls somewhere in between the two, a mash-up of thick, freaky beats and horn-rimmed bedroom indie rock." [2]

Stereolab were an English-French avant-pop band formed in London in 1990. It was given its title because several band members had recently lost members of their families; Régine Chassagne's grandmother died in June 2003, Win and William Butler's grandfather in February 2004, and Richard Reed Parry's aunt in April 2004. Preliminary recordings for Funeral were made during the course of a week in August 2003 at the Hotel2Tango in Montreal, Quebec, and the recording was completed later that year all in an analogue recording format.
