The London Bridge Experience is a tourist attraction in Southwark, London, England, on the south bank of the River Thames. [1] Guests are led by actors on a tour through moments in London's history, including Boudicca's battles with the Romans, and The Great Fire of London.
The attraction is located on Tooley Street, in vaults below the southern abutment of London Bridge, immediately outside London Bridge Station and originally a rival attraction, the London Dungeon, which has since moved closer to the London Eye. It is also opposite The Shard. The attraction opened on 22 February 2008 and cost about £2,000,000 to develop. [2]
On 31 October 2007, before it opened, the BBC reported that a collection of skeletons unearthed in the crypt had scared builders so much that they refused to work alone. [3]
Guests are led by Tour guides on a tour through the 'dark' moments of London's history, which include Boudicca's battles with the Romans, The Great Fire of London and a medieval encounter with Vikings. [4] It explains the history of all the bridges that have been on the site: the first military style pontoon bridge built by the Romans, the first stone bridge built by Peter of Colechurch, the John Rennie Victorian bridge (which has now been relocated to Lake Havasu in Arizona, United States), ending with the current modern bridge opened by Queen Elizabeth II in 1971.
In 2012, The London Bridge Experience introduced an "audio-wand" feature, so foreign customers are able to listen to the show in their own language. [5] This includes German, Spanish, Italian, Polish, and French.
The London Bridge Experience is the first part of the attractions offering guests the opportunity of journeying through the dark history of London Bridge meeting a variety of characters and journeying from the Roman period through to modern days. The attraction's stories cover figures like Jack the Ripper, William Wallace, Guy Fawkes, and Sir John Rennie.
There is a sister attraction, The London Tombs which is included in the admission price. [6] This is a scare attraction built in the remains of a former plague pit. This part of the attraction is optional and unsuitable for children under 11 years old. Younger visitors can request a child-friendly "Guardian Angel tour".
The London Bridge Experience is also home to Phobophobia, a Halloween show, that runs throughout October every year. [7] There are two parts of the Phobophobia show, a daytime family friendly halloween show and an evening adult only show which really pulls out all the stops. The evening show has a unique and different theme and has included in the past, Hillbillies, Clowns, Freaks, Living dolls, Ventriloquist dolls, Vodoo characters, snakes, spiders and many other characters and themes.
The London Tombs have won the Screamie Award later to become the SCARS for being the United Kingdom's Best Year Round Scare Attraction for the years 2009–2019. [8] The London Bridge Experience has been nominated[ when? ] by Group Travel Organiser as a finalist for "Best Attraction for Group Visits". Other finalists included: Buckingham Palace, the London Eye, St Paul's Cathedral, and the Houses of Parliament.
Andrew Maurice Gold was an American multi-instrumentalist, singer, songwriter, and record producer who influenced much of the Los Angeles-dominated pop/soft rock sound in the 1970s. Gold played on scores of records by other artists, most notably Linda Ronstadt, and had his own success with the U.S. top 40 hits "Lonely Boy" (1977) and "Thank You for Being a Friend" (1978), as well as the UK top five hit "Never Let Her Slip Away" (1978). In the 1980s, he had further international chart success as one half of Wax, a collaboration with 10cc's Graham Gouldman.
Valleyfair is a 125-acre (51 ha) amusement park in Shakopee, Minnesota, United States. Owned by Cedar Fair, the park opened in 1976 and now features over 75 rides and attractions including eight roller coasters. Valleyfair also has a water park called Soak City which is included with the price of admission. Fort Amherst, in Medway, South East England, was constructed in 1756 at the southern end of the Brompton lines of defence to protect the southeastern approaches to Chatham Dockyard and the River Medway against a French invasion. Fort Amherst is now open as a visitor attraction throughout the year with tours provided through the tunnel complex
Chessington World of Adventures Resort is a theme park, zoo and hotel complex in Chessington, Greater London, England, around 12 miles (19 km) southwest of Central London. The complex opened as Chessington Zoo in 1931, with the theme park being developed alongside the zoo by The Tussauds Group and opening on 7 July 1987, as one of the first themed amusement parks in Britain. The theme park, which features over 40 rides, is now owned by Merlin Entertainments, following its merger with The Tussauds Group in 2007. Under Merlin, Chessington has been increasingly developed into a resort tourist destination, including two on-site hotels, a high ropes course and camp site.
Drayton Manor Resort is a family theme park, zoo and accommodation in the grounds of the former Drayton Manor, in Drayton Bassett, Staffordshire, England, UK. It covers 180 acres, of which about 113 acres are in use, and hosts about 1.5 million people each year. It is the fourth-largest amusement park in the UK by land area at 280 acres. Kentwell Hall is a stately home in Long Melford, Suffolk, England. It includes the hall, outbuildings, a rare-breeds farm and gardens. Most of the current building facade dates from the mid-16th century, but the origins of Kentwell are much earlier, with references in the Domesday Book of 1086.
The Studio Tour is a ride attraction at the Universal Studios Hollywood theme park in Universal City, California near Los Angeles. Studio Tour is the theme park's signature attraction. It travels through a working film studio, with various film sets on the Universal Studios Lot. Guests sit on multi-car trams for the duration of the ride. The tour lasts about 45–60 minutes and the tour is led by a prerecorded video guide by Jimmy Fallon. It travels through the Front Lot, Backlot and various attractions, passing sets and properties from movies along the way. The tour inspired a smaller but similar version at Universal Studios Florida, which was removed in 1995.

A Scare at Bedtime is an Irish television show, produced by Double Z Enterprises and broadcast by RTÉ, featuring the two puppets Podge and Rodge as the hosts of a spooky tales and urban myths comedy show. It ran from 1997 until January 2006.
Truth or Scare is an American television series on the Discovery Kids network. The show aired from October 25, 2001 to January 1, 2003. It was hosted by Michelle Trachtenberg in a style similar to Maila Nurmi as horror host "Vampira" and Cassandra Peterson as horror host "Elvira, Mistress of the Dark." The series first aired on Discovery Kids as a part of the network's Scary Saturday Night Sleepover lineup. After the series ended, reruns of the show aired on The Hub until October 29, 2012.
The Candy Spooky Theater was a Japanese visual kei rock band, who debuted in 2005 with the single "Pumpkins Scream in the Dead of Night Parade". The band was made up of three members: Jack Spooky, Kal Bone Jr., and Peggy Giggles, and their music was driven by Tim Burton-like horror influences under the concept of "Comical Horror Halloween Party".
HalloWishes was a fireworks show that took place during "Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party" at Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom theme park from 2005 to 2018. It was loosely based on the popular Haunted Mansion attraction and includes vocal appearances by Disney Villains. It was replaced by Disney's Not So Spooky Spectacular!.
Howl-O-Scream is an annual Halloween seasonal event that occurs during the month of October at Busch Gardens Tampa Bay, Busch Gardens Williamsburg, SeaWorld San Antonio, and as of recently began at SeaWorld Orlando and SeaWorld San Diego. The parks remain operational during the day and transition to Howl-O-Scream at night. The event features haunted houses, "scare zones", and live entertainment.
Halloween Haunt, previously known as "Fearfest", is a Halloween event at Canada's Wonderland located in Vaughan, Ontario, Canada. It runs after the park's regular operating hours on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evenings in October until the end of October or early November – up to, and recently in the 2019 season, NOT including Halloween night. It is Canada's largest haunted theme park featuring over 300 monsters, nine walk-through "maze" attractions, six uniquely themed atmospheric scare areas, and three live shows. During its operation, the grounds are transformed via decorative props, thematic music, eerie lighting to further create its scary atmosphere.
Universal's Halloween Horror Nights is an annual Halloween-themed event at Universal Studios theme parks in Orlando, Hollywood, Japan and Singapore. The event was originally named Universal Studios Fright Nights in 1991 and began as a 3-night event at Universal Studios Florida. The following year, it re-branded as Halloween Horror Nights, advertised as the "second annual event". Since then, it evolved into a scare-a-thon event filled with themed haunted houses and scare zones, over the course of select nights from early September until late October/early November.
Fright Nights is a seasonal Halloween event held at Warner Bros. Movie World on the Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia. The event began in 2006 as Halloween Family Fun Night as a single night event and has since evolved into a major park event across a month. It features themed mazes, shows and rides. Fright Nights also refers to the Halloween special event at Thorpe Park in Chertsey, Surrey, England, which opened in 2002.

HalloWeekends is an annual Halloween event at Cedar Point amusement park in Sandusky, Ohio. It was introduced in 1997, and takes place during the Halloween season, usually from the second Friday after Labor Day until the Sunday before Halloween, or sometimes into early November. The event is open on Thursday Nights, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. It is included free with park admission. As of 2021, HalloWeekends features 11 haunted houses and nighttime scare zones, and there are several children's attractions. It is advised that children under 13 years old be accompanied by an adult. HalloWeekend's yearly slogan is "All You Fear is Here!". Other Cedar Fair parks including Dorney Park & Wildwater Kingdom, Valley Fair, and Worlds of Fun all have formerly used the HalloWeekends name. The name has changed to Halloween Haunt at all 3 parks. Cedar Point is the only Cedar Fair park that still uses the HalloWeekends name.
Halloween Wars is an American reality competition series from Super Delicious, the production company that also produces Cupcake Wars and Cake Wars. It premiered on October 2, 2011, on Food Network and it runs over the course of four weeks in October annually. The show pits five teams made up of cake sculptors, sugar artists, and pumpkin carvers against each other to produce the ultimate Halloween themed display. The winning team is awarded $50,000.
David Simon Pumpkins is a fictional character played by American actor Tom Hanks, first appearing on the October 22, 2016, episode of Saturday Night Live in a sketch written by Mikey Day, Bobby Moynihan, and Streeter Seidell. Pumpkins developed a cult following amidst the positive reception, served as the basis of a 2017 animated Halloween special, and has subsequently returned to SNL multiple times.
