The Misadventures of the Dunderheads, also known as Montana Amazon, is a 2012 American independent black comedy road feature film starring Olympia Dukakis, Haley Joel Osment, and Alison Brie.
The Dunderheads are an eccentric Montana family who've been in the mountains far too long. Now one step ahead of the law, matriarch Grandma Ira careens across the American West with her two wildly dysfunctional teenage grandkids.
The finished film premiered in October 2012 at the Los Angeles Femme International Film Festival where its director, D.G. Brock, won the Best Feature Film Director award. [1] The film was shown theatrically in art houses across the South by The Southern Circuit in March and April 2013. [2] It was shown on the Starz Movie Channels from 2013 through August 2014. [3]
The film, then titled Montana Amazon, won "Best Feature Film" at the 2010 "Big Apple Film Festival". [4]
In 2023, the film was recut to 83 minutes and retitled Montana Amazon Redux. [5]
Haley Joel Osment is an American actor. Beginning his career as a child actor, Osment's role in the comedy-drama film Forrest Gump (1994) won him a Young Artist Award. His breakthrough came with the psychological thriller film The Sixth Sense (1999), which won him a Saturn Award and earned him nominations for an Academy Award, a Golden Globe Award and a Screen Actors Guild Award. He achieved further success with the drama film Pay It Forward (2000), the science fiction film A.I. Artificial Intelligence (2001) which won him a second Saturn Award, the comedy film Secondhand Lions (2003) which won him a Critics Choice Award, and the animated film The Jungle Book 2 (2003). He has voiced Sora in the Kingdom Hearts video game franchise since 2002, and voiced Vanitas in the same franchise from 2010 to 2020.
Olympia Dukakis was an American actress. She performed in more than 130 stage productions, in some 60 films, and in approximately 50 television series. Best known as a screen actress, she started her career in theater. Not long after her arrival in New York City, she won an Obie Award for Best Actress in 1963 for her off-Broadway performance in Bertolt Brecht's Man Equals Man.
