The Mothership is an unreleased American science fiction adventure film written and directed by Matthew Charman. The film stars Halle Berry, Molly Parker, and Omari Hardwick.
One year after her husband mysteriously vanishes from their rural farm, single mother Sara Morse and her children discover a strange, extraterrestrial object underneath their home, which leads them to embark on a race to find their husband, father, and most importantly – the truth. [2]
The Mothership was announced in February 2021, with Halle Berry set to star and executive produce, and screenwriter Matthew Charman debuting as director. [3]
Principal photography began on June 14, 2021, and concluded on August 9, 2021, in Boston, Massachusetts. [4] [5] [6] [7]
In January 2024, Netflix announced that it no longer planned to release the film, despite already having poured a significant amount of time and money into the production. Reasons given included its lengthy post-production process and that "it was never completed". A newsletter written by reporter Jeff Sneider offered as an additional explanation that the production involved numerous child actors, actors who had grown out of their roles between the start of filming and now. On February 2, Netflix chief content officer Bela Bajaria, said "everybody just felt like it was the right thing to not do it." [11] [12]
Halle Maria Berry is an American actress. She began her career as a model and entered several beauty contests, finishing as the first runner-up in the Miss USA pageant and coming in sixth in the Miss World 1986. Her breakthrough film role was in the romantic comedy Boomerang (1992), alongside Eddie Murphy, which led to roles in The Flintstones (1994) and Bulworth (1998) as well as the television film Introducing Dorothy Dandridge (1999), for which she won a Primetime Emmy Award and a Golden Globe Award.
Danielle Riley Keough is an American actress. She made her feature film debut in a supporting part in the musical biopic The Runaways (2010), portraying Marie Currie. Keough subsequently starred in the independent thriller The Good Doctor (2011), before being cast in a minor role in Steven Soderbergh's comedy film Magic Mike (2012). She had her first big-budget release in the action feature Mad Max: Fury Road (2015).

Matthew Charman is a British screenwriter, playwright, and producer. He was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay for his 2015 film Bridge of Spies, directed by Steven Spielberg and co-written with Joel and Ethan Coen. Charman started out writing for theatre, making a breakthrough as writer-in-residence at the National Theatre in London, where then-director Nicholas Hytner described Charman as having "a priceless nose for a story".
Nora Arnezeder is a French actress. She is known for her roles in the CBS drama television series Zoo (2015–2016), the science fiction thriller film Tides (2021) and the zombie heist film Army of the Dead (2021). She is a recipient of the Lumières Award for Most Promising Actress.
