The Motor (later, just Motor) was a British weekly car magazine founded on 28 January 1903 and published by Temple Press. It was initially launched as Motorcycling and Motoring in 1902 before the title was shortened. [1] From the 14 March 1964 issue the magazine name was simply Motor. Compared to rival The Autocar (later, just Autocar), Motor was more informative and more conservative.

In 1988, the journal was absorbed by its long-standing rival Autocar , which became, from the 7 September issue, Autocar & Motor. Six years later, with the 21 September 1994 issue, the name reverted to Autocar.

Its main competitor within the Australian car magazine market was Motor, though Wheels and Motor were stablemates in the Bauer Media Group catalogue and were aimed at slightly different readers as Motor put more attention on performance cars. Wheels magazine is sold in Australia and New Zealand through online delivery and some retail stores. The magazine was published monthly by Bauer Media before Bauer sold its Australian media interests to Are Media in June 2020. Wheels was sold to Motoring Media Network in July 2024.

The Brighton Speed Trials, in full The Brighton National Speed Trials, is commonly held to be the oldest running motor race. The first race was held 19–22 July 1905 after Sir Harry Preston persuaded Brighton town council to tarmac the surface of the road adjacent to the beach between the Palace Pier and Black Rock to hold motor racing events. This stretch was renamed Madeira Drive in 1909 and the event is still held there, normally on the second Saturday of September each year. In 1936 Motor Sport described the event as: "undoubtedly the most important speed-trials on the British Calendar."

<span class="mw-page-title-main">McLaren P1</span> Mid-engine hybrid sports car

The McLaren P1 is a flagship sports car produced by British marque McLaren Automotive. Styled by American car designer Frank Stephenson, it is the second installment in McLaren's Ultimate Series after the McLaren F1. Considered to be the spiritual successor to the F1, the P1 was one of the first high performance sports cars to be introduced incorporating hybrid technology; the Porsche 918 Spyder having begun taking orders prior to the P1 and the LaFerrari introduced alongside it. First shown as a concept on the 20th anniversary of the F1 at the 2012 Paris Motor Show, the P1 made its debut at the 2013 Geneva International Motor Show.
