Detroit Indie rock popsters The Nice Device were a four-piece, female-fronted band formed in 2000 that bridged the exploding Garage Rock revival scene and the underrated Detroit Power Pop scene with a polished, yet slightly trashy sound filled with hooks akin to The Buzzcocks, The Pixies and Blondie to name a few.
During the summer of 2000, local songwriter and accomplished folk artist Alicia Gbur, inspired by the thriving Detroit Rock scene wrote several songs with the intent to record and start a rock band. She asked mutual musician friends Zach Shipps (Electric Six) and Matt Aljian (Mood Elevator) to come to the studio and play on the initial recordings. Rehearsals started with Rich Griffith from Ann Arbor on bass. That same month, she met guitarist Matt Lannoo at a party. During the fall of 2000 Gbur, Lannoo and Griffith wrote and rehearsed while auditioning drummers eventually finding Nick Gerhardt (Plain). A handful of new songs were written and recorded. In early 2001 the first few shows were at the legendary Gold Dollar club in Detroit's Cass Corridor under the name The Nice Device. A few months later, Griffith was replaced on bass with Zach Shipps.
In 2002 The Nice Device entered Ghetto Recorders Studio with producer Jim Diamond (White Stripes, The Mooney Suzuki) and recorded three songs for their first official release, a 7" vinyl single. In 2003 the band began vigorously writing and submitting demos per request of Maverick Records in Hollywood CA. Unfortunately the record label underwent significant changes in staff and the band lost their A&R representation.
2004 saw the band recording their next batch of songs at Grand Studios in Detroit with Brendan Benson. Shipps left the band to tour in The Wellfed Boys (Brendan Benson) and Matt Hatch from The Sights took over on Bass. A video was shot for the single "My Little Birdie" at the historic Michigan Theater in Detroit. They released the EP titled Birth of a Lover later that year (produced by Zach Shipps and engineered by Brendan Benson) and instantly garnered a slew of favorable reviews, as well as a publishing deal with Pure Tone Music.
In 2005 they began writing songs for their first full length release eventually titled Let The Nightlife Down. Steve Champine was added on keyboards and recording with began at Studio 12ax7 in Hamtramck and Big Sky Studio in Ann Arbor. Yet another lineup change, Matt Hatch left and was replaced by Jeff Alber on bass in June 2005. The video for "Innocent" was shot by Lucky Airlines in early 2006 and by May the record was released and a US/CA tour followed. In January 2007, Steve Champine was replaced on keyboards with Thomas Smak until June 2008 at which time they became a four-piece again.

In the summer of 2007 Alicia and Matt began rehearsing with Sire Records artists The Von Bondies for the upcoming release of a new EP titled "We are Kamikazes" and subsequent tours to follow. They took a several month hiatus from The Nice Device to rehearse and tour in The Von Bondies throughout the US, CA, UK, Europe and Scandinavia - eventually leaving the band in April 2008.
In the fall of 2008, The Nice Device regrouped and released their second EP titled Sorry We Killed You. It was recorded and produced at The Loft in Saline, MI by Tim Patalan, former member of another Sire Records artist The Fags. While finishing a planned final album, the band unofficially disbanded in the fall of 2009.

The Raconteurs is an American rock band from Detroit, Michigan, formed in 2005. The band consists of Jack White, Brendan Benson, Jack Lawrence, and Patrick Keeler (drums). Lawrence and Keeler were originally members of the Greenhornes, while White and Lawrence went on to become members of the Dead Weather.
Bane was an American hardcore punk band that began in 1995 as a side project between Aaron Dalbec and Damon Bellorado. Dalbec approached Matt Firestone to sing and they played under the moniker of Gateway for a few shows, before Firestone parted ways to focus on other projects. Dalbec then approached Aaron Bedard about singing for Bane. They went into the studio in December 1995 with a few friends and released a five-song demo. The next year saw the release of their first EP, and many shows throughout central Massachusetts. In early 1997, Bane released Free to Think, Free to Be EP, and in 1998 the band released the Holding This Moment 7" and CD collection, and embarked upon their first US tour. Like many other hardcore bands, Bane are known for their promotion of tolerance and unity within the scene.
Self is an American alternative pop rock band from Murfreesboro, Tennessee. The band is led by Matt Mahaffey. The band currently consists of Chris James, Mac Burrus, and Jason Rawlings (Drums). Past members include Matt's brother, Mike Mahaffey and Timm Nobles. Mahaffey cites Electric Light Orchestra, Prince, and Pixies as some of his biggest musical influences.
The Greenhornes were an American garage rock band from Cincinnati, Ohio, formed in 1996 by vocalist/guitarist Craig Fox, bass guitarist Jack Lawrence and drummer Patrick Keeler. They released their debut album Gun For You in 1999, followed by a self-titled album in 2001. A third studio album, Dual Mono, was released in 2002, with the band taking a small hiatus. The Greenhornes returned in 2005 to release a new EP, East Grand Blues, and a compilation album, Sewed Soles. During this time, Lawrence and Keeler formed The Raconteurs with Detroit musicians and personal friends Jack White and Brendan Benson, leaving very few performances and interaction with Fox. In 2010, the band reunited once again to record a studio album, Four Stars, their first in eight years.
Smak was a Serbian and Yugoslav band from Kragujevac. The group reached the peak of popularity in the 1970s when it was one of the most notable acts of the former Yugoslav rock scene. The band's leader, guitarist Radomir Mihailović, nicknamed Točak, is considered one of the most influential guitarists on the former Yugoslav rock scene.

Help She Can't Swim was an English indie/art rock band, formed in Southampton in 2003. The band released a number of singles on Fantastic Plastic Records, along with an EP and two albums. Before signing to Fantastic Plastic, they had released one EP entitled Suck Our Band on the Vacuous Pop label. While originally recorded as a demo, Vacuous Pop were so taken with the 'Suck Our Band' recordings that they had to be given a proper release. Originally a five-piece, one of the founding members, Tom Baker, left the band in 2006, before the release of the band's second album The Death of Nightlife, though still contributed to the recording which had mostly been completed before his departure. The band announced they had split up on 26 May 2008 on their Myspace blog. Their reasoning behind the breakup, as quoted from their MySpace blog was "There are a lot of things that the four of us need to do personally that being in the band does not allow. We have had an amazing time being in HSCS; we got to release our music, tour, play shows with some great bands and met lots of lovely people."

Citizen Zero is an American hard rock band from Detroit, Michigan. Founded in Rochester Hills in 2010 by siblings Greg (bass), John (drums), and Matt Dudley (guitar) and vocalist Josh LeMay the band caught the ear of Kid Rock's recording engineer Al Sutton, who worked with them in Rustbelt Studios and recorded their eponymous 2011 debut EP. How Dare You? is the sixteenth album by Detroit rock band Electric Six and the thirteenth in their official canon. It was released on October 13, 2017. It is their longest studio album to date. The song, "Arrive Alive", was released ahead of the album as a pre-order incentive single to those who pre-ordered the album.
