The Oracle Institute

The Oracle Institute is a 501(c)(3) educational charity founded in 2004 by Laura M. George and located in Independence, Virginia. [1] Oracle operates a multi-faith spirituality school, an award-winning publishing house, the Peace Pentagon HUB and conference center, and programs that support pluralistic and progressive values. Oracle's stated purpose is to serve as "An Advocate for Peace and a Vanguard for Conscious Evolution," and its formal mission statement is an adaptation of Thomas Jefferson's Act for Religious Freedom. [2]

Spirituality School

Oracle's spirituality school offers courses, conferences, and retreats which focus on the five primary religions (Hinduism, Judaism, Buddhism, Christianity, and Islam), indigenous wisdom traditions, New Age philosophies, peace-building, social justice, and sustainability. In 2015, Oracle sponsored the "Building the New World Conference" at Radford University, which featured futurists Barbara Marx Hubbard, Jerome C. Glenn, and Charles Eisenstein. [3] In 2020, Oracle hosted a virtual "Building the New World Summit," featuring David Korten, Riane Eisler, David Sloan Wilson, Kurt Johnson, David Suzuki, Alex Grey, and Paul K. Chappell. [4]

Publishing Houses

Oracle publishes books under its imprints, Oracle Institute Press and Peace Pentagon Press. Genres include religion and spirituality, personal growth and social evolution, mysticism, the arts, and children's fiction. Oracle Institute Press has won five book awards, including two Independent Publisher Book Awards in the Religion category, [5] [6] the Young Voices Seal of Approval for children's fiction, and two Indie Book Awards in the Spirituality and Performing Arts categories. [7]

Peace Pentagon

In 2012, after two years of litigation, [8] [9] during which Oracle was represented by The Rutherford Institute, [10] Oracle achieved the right to build the "Peace Pentagon" along the New River in Grayson County, Virginia. [11] The Peace Pentagon is an energy-efficient PassivHaus structure with a multi-faith sanctuary and conference facilities. [12]

Valley of Light

In 2015, Oracle founded an intentional community called the "Valley of Light" for cultural creatives who live and work at the Oracle Campus. The Valley of Light micro-community was inspired by the Federation of Damanhur, whose Ambassadors regularly visit Oracle Campus. [13] The Valley of Light is a member of the Fellowship for Intentional Community. [14]

WCPA & ECI Headquarters

In 2020, the Peace Pentagon at Oracle Campus became the United States headquarters for the Earth Constitution Institute (ECI) [15] and the World Constitution and Parliament Association (WCPA), [16] international organizations dedicated to World Federalism and the adoption of the Earth Constitution. [17]

Laura M. George

In 2022, Oracle’s founder Laura M. George was named an Evolutionary Leader. [18]

TheRutherford Institute is a conservative Christian public interest law firm dedicated to the defense of civil liberties, human rights, and religious liberties. Based in Charlottesville, Virginia, the non-profit organization's motto is "its our job to make the government play by the rules of the Constitution." The organization was founded in 1982 by John W. Whitehead, who continued to be its president as of 2015. The Rutherford Institute offers free legal services to those who have had their rights threatened or violated. The Rutherford Institute has a network of affiliate attorneys across the United States and funds its efforts through donations. In addition to its offer of legal services, the organization offers free educational materials for those interested in the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights.

Patricia Monaghan was a poet, a writer, a spiritual activist, and an influential figure in the contemporary women's spirituality movement. Monaghan wrote over 20 books on a range of topics including Goddess spirituality, earth spirituality, Celtic mythology, the landscape of Ireland, and techniques of meditation. In 1979, she published the first encyclopedia of female divinities, a book which has remained steadily in print since then and was republished in 2009 in a two volume set as The Encyclopedia of Goddesses and Heroines. She was a mentor to many scholars and writers including biologist Cristina Eisenberg, poet Annie Finch, theologian Charlene Spretnak, and anthropologist Dawn Work-MaKinne, and was the founding member of the Association for the Study of Women and Mythology, which brought together artists, scholars, and researchers of women-centered mythology and Goddess spirituality for the first time in a national academic organization.

Rajinder Singh is the head of the international non-profit organization Science of Spirituality (SOS), known in India as the Sawan Kirpal Ruhani Mission. To his disciples he is known as Sant Rajinder Singh Ji Maharaj. Singh is internationally recognized for his work toward promoting inner and outer peace through spirituality and meditation on the inner Light and Sound.

Kathleen P. Deignan, CND,, is an Irish-American theologian, author and songwriter of contemporary liturgical music. A Sister of the Congregation of Notre Dame, she is composer-in-residence for Schola Ministries and is the founding director of the Deignan Institute for Earth and Spirit Institute at Iona College, New York. She previously directed the Iona Institute for Peace and Justice Studies in Ireland. Deignan is a GreenFaith Fellow who completed an intensive training in religious environmental leadership. Her work in this area focuses on the legacy of Father Thomas Berry. She is Emerita President of the International Thomas Merton Society and a Board Member of the American Teilhard Association. She is an author, public speaker, and environmental advocate.

Oberto Airaudi was an Italian philosopher and artist, who founded the Federation of Damanhur. Airaudi also went by the name of Falco (Hawk), based on the Damanhur practice of adopting animal names. He was born in Balangero, near Turin, Italy.

Laura Huxley was an American musician, author, psychotherapist and lecturer. She was married to author Aldous Huxley from 1956 until his death in 1963.

Louis Vitale, OFM, is a Franciscan friar, peace activist, and a co-founder of Nevada Desert Experience. His religious beliefs led him to participate in civil disobedience actions at peace demonstrations and acts of religious witness over forty years. In the name of peace, Vitale has been arrested more than 400 times. Vitale stated that Francis of Assisi, Mahatma Gandhi and Martin Luther King Jr. provide him with inspiration.

Rolling Thunder aka John Pope, 1916–1996) was a hippie spiritual leader who self-identified as a Native American medicine man. He was raised in Oklahoma and later moved to Nevada. He has been considered an example of a plastic medicine man, with little or no genuine connection to the culture or religion he claimed to represent or study..

Daniel Patrick Horan is an American Franciscan friar, Catholic priest, theologian, and author. He is currently the director of the Center for Spirituality and professor of Philosophy, Religious Studies, and Theology at Saint Mary's Colleg in Notre Dame, Indiana. He previously held the Duns Scotus Chair of Spirituality at Catholic Theological Union in Chicago. He is a columnist for National Catholic Reporter.

Roger S. Gottlieb is professor of philosophy and Paris Fletcher Distinguished Professor in the Humanities at Worcester Polytechnic Institute. He has written or edited 21 books, including two Nautilus Book Awards winners, and over 150 papers on philosophy, political theory, (environmental) ethics, religious studies, (religious) environmentalism, religious life, contemporary spirituality, the Holocaust, and disability. He is internationally known for his work as a leading analyst and exponent of religious environmentalism, for his passionate and moving account of spirituality in an age of environmental crisis, and for his innovative and humane description of the role of religion in a democratic society.

Philip Isely was an American peace activist and writer best known for writing numerous books and founding the Global Ratification and Elections Network (GREN) and World Constitution and Parliament Association (WCPA) along with his wife Margaret Isely, in 1955.
