The Penguin Guide to Blues Recordings is an encyclopedia of blues music albums released on CD.
The book's first edition was released on 31 October 2006 and was written by Tony Russell and Chris Smith with contributions by Neil Slaven, Ricky Russell and Joe Faulkner. Russell in particular is known as a musical historian, working closely with programs presented on BBC Radio, as well as documentaries on the blues.
In the book, artists are set up alphabetically and include short (usually one paragraph) biographies before showing a complete listing of their discography. Each album includes title, a rating out of four stars, label, musicians on the album, month and year of recording, and finally a review of varying length.

Somethin' Else is a jazz album by alto saxophonist Julian "Cannonball" Adderley, his only album on the Blue Note label, recorded and released in 1958. Also on the session is trumpeter Miles Davis in one of his handful of recording dates for Blue Note. Adderley was a member of Davis' group at the time this album was recorded. The Penguin Guide to Jazz selected Somethin' Else as part of its suggested "Core Collection."

The album was released on CD by the label Collectables on August 27, 1996, the same day as the compilation album Billie Jean Blues. The album was produced by Swamp Dogg at several studios. The Penguin Guide to Blues Recordings says that this album is the superior of it and Billie Jean Blues due to more varied material.
