The Porter and the Hare is a 1768 genre painting by the German-born British artist Johann Zoffany. [1] It features a London street trader, a common theme during the mid-Georgian era. It represents one of the earliest depictions of the sandwich, which had been pioneered by the politician Lord Sandwich a few years earlier. he painting is in the collection of the Herbert Art Gallery in Coventry, having been acquired in 1955.
