The Racist Mind: Portraits of American Neo-Nazis and Klansmen is a book by Raphael S. Ezekiel. It attempts to provide sociological and psychological insights into White supremacist groups, including neo-Nazi groups and the Ku Klux Klan, and their members.
The book is divided into three parts: "Gatherings" (relating the author's attendance at rallies, trials, and congresses), "National Leaders" (Tom Metzger, Dave Holland, and Richard Butler), and "Detroit" (portraits of the members of a neo-Nazi group).
It was published by Viking Press in 1995 (hardcover, 368 pages, ISBN 0-670-83958-2); it was reprinted in paperback by Penguin in 1996 ( ISBN 0-14-023449-7).

The American Nazi Party (ANP) is an American neo-Nazi political party founded by George Lincoln Rockwell and headquartered in Arlington, Virginia. Rockwell founded the organization as the World Union of Free Enterprise National Socialists (WUFENS), but renamed it the American Nazi Party in 1960. Since the late 1960s, a number of small groups have used the name "American Nazi Party" with most being independent of each other and disbanding before the 21st century. The party is based largely upon the ideals and policies of Adolf Hitler's Nazi Party in Germany during the Nazi era, and embraced its uniforms and iconography. Shortly after Rockwell's murder in 1967, the organization appointed Rockwell's second in command, Deputy Commander Matt Koehl as the new leader. The American Nazi Party, now under Koehl's command, was subject to ideological disagreements between members in the 1970s and 1980s. "In 1982, Martin Kerr, a leader at the Franklin Road headquarters, announced that the organization was changing its name to the New Order and moving to the Midwest," effective January 1, 1983. Due to recruitment issues along with financial and legal trouble, Koehl was forced to relocate the group's headquarters from the DC area, eventually finding his way to scattered locations in Wisconsin and Michigan. After Koehl's death in 2014, a long-time member and officer of the New Order, Martin Kerr assumed leadership and maintains the New Order website and organization.
White Aryan Resistance (WAR) is a white supremacist neo-Nazi organization in the United States founded and led by former Ku Klux Klan Grand Dragon Tom Metzger. It is based in Warsaw, Indiana, and is incorporated as a business.
Richard Girnt Butler was an American engineer and white supremacist. After dedicating himself to the Christian Identity movement, a racialist offshoot of British Israelism, Butler founded the neo-Nazi Aryan Nations and would become the "spiritual godfather" to the white supremacist movement, in which he was "a leading figure". He has been described as a "notorious racist".

American Front (AF) is a white supremacist organization founded in San Francisco, California by Bob Heick in 1984. It began as a loose organization modeled after the British National Front. Heick began working with Tom Metzger's White Aryan Resistance (WAR) in 1988. Heick and artist Boyd Rice posed for photos in AF uniforms for an article on neo-Nazism in Sassy magazine. Rice claims he was never really a member of the American Front, but that he was friends with Heick.
The Northwest Territorial Imperative is a white separatist idea that has been popularized since the 1970s–80s by white nationalist, white supremacist, white separatist and neo-Nazi groups within the United States. According to it, members of these groups are encouraged to relocate to a region of the Northwestern United States—Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and Western Montana—with the intent to eventually declare the region an Aryan white ethnostate. Depending on who defines the project, it can also include the entire states of Montana and Wyoming, plus Northern California.
Mulugeta Seraw was an Ethiopian student who traveled to the United States to attend college. He was 28 when he was murdered by three white supremacists in November 1988 in Portland, Oregon. They were convicted, and Mulugeta's father and son--who was six years old--filed a civil lawsuit against the killers and an affiliated organization, holding them liable for the murder..
August Byron Kreis III is an American former neo-Nazi leader and a convicted child molester. Kreis has been a member of the Ku Klux Klan (KKK), the Posse Comitatus, and the Aryan Nations.
The National Socialist Movement (NSM) is a neo-Nazi organization in the United States. It is a part of the Nationalist Front. The Party claimed to be the "largest and most active" National Socialist organization in the United States. It is classified as a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center. In January 2019, the leadership of the group was turned over to James Hart Stern, a black activist, who announced his intention to undermine the group and "eradicate" it. In March 2019 in a press release the group's leader, Jeff Schoep, said that Stern “does not speak for the National Socialist Movement and he holds no legal standing with the NSM.” In addition to him speaking out against Stern, he also noted that he was leaving and giving his position to Burt Colucci. Jeff Schoep has since renounced his racist past and involvement in any racist groups.
The Aryan Guard was a neo-Nazi group based in Alberta, Canada, whose members are primarily located in the city of Calgary. It was founded in late 2006, and was reported to have disbanded in 2009 as a result of internal conflict including pipe bombing attacks. However, late in 2009 the group denied this and claimed it was still operating.

He was a Grand Wizard of the Ku Klux Klan in the 1970s. Metzger voiced strong opposition to immigration to the United States. He was incarcerated in Los Angeles County, California, and Toronto, Ontario, Canada, and was the subject of several lawsuits and government inquiries. He, his son, and WAR were fined $12 million as a result of the murder of Mulugeta Seraw, 28, an Ethiopian student, by skinheads in Portland, Oregon, affiliated with WAR.
