The Red Room Theatre Company is a theatre company based in London, United Kingdom. In the 1990s, it was an important venue for new play writing. [1]
It was founded in 1995 by Lisa Goldman [2] as a voluntary organization and became regularly funded by Arts Council England in 2002. It then achieved charity status in 2006 (charity number 1110724). The Red Room believes theater should be a truly public art form.
In August 2006, Topher Campbell succeeded Lisa Goldman as the artistic director. [3] [4] As a director with widespread experience in theater, film, television and radio, Topher has worked with venues such as the West Yorkshire Playhouse, Gate Theatre, Young Vic, BBC, Channel 4, the British Film Institute London Lesbian and Gay Film Festival and is co-founder of rukus! Federation Ltd. rukus! Federation Ltd is the UK's award-winning Black Lesbian and Gay arts company.
For over ten years, the Red Room has had a track record of award-winning productions and has been a radical voice of new theatre and film in London. It creates groundbreaking collaborations between writers, artists and communities to provoke and influence a wider social debate.
In addition to its productions, the Red Room has involved itself in the past in debates and activism around culture and politics, such as Going Public (2003), a debate at the Tricycle Theatre about theater as a public art form, with contributions from the RSC, Cardboard Citizens and Outside Edge. The Red Room also initiated the network Artists Against the War (2003), exhibiting art work and supporting anti-war artists with events including Palestine Verbatim in Trafalgar Square and Shock and Awe cabaret.
The Red Room also hosts Red Room Platforms. An open free discussion and performance-based events that bring artists, activists, and the general public together. Recent platforms include:

Ivan Heng is a Singaporean actor and theatre director of Peranakan descent. He is the founding artistic director of W!LD RICE, a theatre company in Singapore, and an outspoken advocate for respect for diversity and freedom of expression.

John Kuntz is an American actor, playwright, director, and solo performer. Kuntz is the author of 14 full-length plays, a founding company member at Actors' Shakespeare Project, has taught at Emerson College, Suffolk University, and Concord Academy, and is currently an associate professor of theater at the Boston Conservatory at Berklee. He was an inaugural playwriting fellow with the Huntington Theatre Company and a fellow at the Eugene O’Neill Theatre Center in 2007. Kuntz is the recipient of six Elliot Norton Awards, two Independent Reviewers of New England (IRNE) Awards, and New York International Fringe Festival Award, among others.

Wendy C. Goldberg is an American theatre director and the current Artistic Director of the National Playwrights Conference at The Eugene O'Neill Theater Center. Under Goldberg's tenure, The O'Neill was awarded the 2010 Regional Theatre Tony Award, the first play development and education organization to receive this honor. Goldberg is the first woman to run the Playwrights Conference and was named Artistic Director when she was just 31 years old.
Topher Campbell is a filmmaker, artist and writer who has created a range of works in broadcasting, film, theatre, television and performance. His works focus on issues of sexuality, masculinity, and the city, particularly in relation to race, human rights and climate change. Campbell is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, and a past recipient of the Jerwood Directors Award (2005). He holds an honorary doctorate from the University of Sussex for his work in the arts and Black LGBTQ advocacy. He is currently Programme Director of the Collaborative Theatre Making programme at Rose Bruford College in London.
Bryan Savery is an English arts manager and producer of film and theatre. He is the producer for The Red Room Theatre Company, projects producer for Somerset House, the Associate Producer for Peshkar Productions and consultant for the Waltham Forrest Cinema Project. As well producing theatre and Film he is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, Trustee of the Queen's Theatre, sits on the board of the Unicorn Theatre and is a former Vice Chair of the Independent Theatre Council (2003–2009). In 2012, he was given Freedom of the City of London.
Natalie Hennedige is the Artistic Director of Cake Theatrical Productions, a contemporary performance company based in Singapore. She is a recipient of the National Arts Council Young Artist Award in 2007 and the JCCI Singapore Foundation Culture Award in 2010. Natalie conceptualises, writes and directs works in theatre and other media. She also constantly collaborates with artists from across disciplines such as visual arts, film and video, performance art and dance. Natalie engineers contemporary works that are artistically adventurous and that defy classification, playing at conventional performance venues, unusual spaces of creative experimentation and in public spaces to create performance-based experiences.

In 2008 Lisa was included in the London Evening Standard’s ‘Influentials’ list as one of the 1000 most influential people in London.
Sam Strong is an Australian theatre director and arts leader; he was the artistic director of Queensland Theatre Company (2015–2019) and of Griffin Theatre Company (2010–2013). He has also been Chair of Circa and the Associate Artistic Director of Melbourne Theatre Company.
Topher Payne is an American playwright and screenwriter based in Atlanta, Georgia. Two of his plays premiered in 2015: Perfect Arrangement, which premiered Off-Broadway and was produced by Primary Stages, and Angry Fags, which was produced at Chicago's Steppenwolf Theatre. Perfect Arrangement was awarded the M. Elizabeth Osborn Award for best new play by an emerging playwright by the American Theatre Critics Association in 2014. Since 2016, he has scripted five original films for The Hallmark Channel, including My Summer Prince and the Gift to Remember series.
Ajamu X is a British artist, curator, archivist and activist. He is best known for his fine art photography which explores same-sex desire, and the Black male body, and his work as an archivist and activist to document the lives and experiences of black LGBTQ people in the United Kingdom (UK).
Lachlan Philpott is an Australian theatre writer, director and teacher. He graduated from UNSW, The Victorian College of the Arts and NIDA Playwrights Studio. He was Artistic Director of Tantrum Theatre in Newcastle, writer-in-residence at Red Stitch in Melbourne and the Literary Associate at ATYP. His 18 plays have been performed across Australia as well as Ireland, the UK and USA. He was Chair of the Australian Writer’s Guild Playwrights’ Committee between 2012 and 2016, and was the recipient of the Fulbright Scholarship Inaugural Professional Playwriting Scholarship in 2014.... In 2012 his play Silent Disco won the Stage Award at the 45th annual AWGIE Awards.
