The Refinery was a restaurant in Seminole Heights, Florida in the United States. It was owned by Michelle and Greg Baker, who offer a weekly menu that includes molecular gastronomy and regional fare using ingredients such as tangerine juice, fennel, fish, acorn squash with bacon and beurre blanc. It received a nomination for the James Beard Award in February 2012. [1] [2] It closed on August 3, 2019. [3]

The area had an economic downturn in the late 20th century marked by increased crime, but has since seen a resurgence with new restaurants, brew pubs and independent businesses opening up. The neighborhood's historic homes, eclectic shops and gourmet restaurants are an increasing draw.

Ella's Americana Folk Art Cafe is a restaurant and bar in the Seminole Heights section of Tampa, Florida. Ernie Locke and Melissa Deming opened it in 2009. It is decorated with artwork from regional artists, hosts live music on the weekends, and serves Soul Food on Sundays. It is also known for its chocolate bacon bars. It is part of a group of notable restaurants in Seminole Heights that includes The Refinery and the Independent (restaurant). It is located at 5119 North Nebraska Avenue.

La Segunda Central Bakery is a purveyor of Cuban bread, pastries, and other baked goods in the historic neighborhood of Ybor City in Tampa, Florida. It was founded in 1915 as part of a co-op of three bakeries in the Ybor City area: La Primera, La Segunda and La Tercera. The other two establishments closed during the Great Depression, leaving the slightly renamed La Segunda Central as the primary supplier of Cuban bread to the local community. The bakery was founded and operated by Juan Moré, an immigrant from northern Spain who is generally credited with developing modern Cuban bread by adapting a recipe he'd learned in Cuba while serving in the Spanish-American War. The Moré family has continued to own and operate the business for four generations.

A special election for Florida's 13th congressional district was held March 11, 2014, to elect a member of the United States House of Representatives, following the death of incumbent Republican Congressman Bill Young on October 18, 2013. Primary elections were held on January 14, 2014. Young, who had already announced that he would not be running for re-election in 2014, was re-elected in 2012 with 57 percent of the vote. With 100% of the precincts reporting, David Jolly was declared the winner.

Columbus Drive is a major road in Tampa, Florida, from State Road 589 on its west side east through West Tampa. It was originally known as Michigan Avenue and was renamed Columbus Drive in 1933. On its west end, International Plaza, an upscale mall, and several upscale restaurants are located off Columbus Drive on Jim Walter Boulevard, named in 2003 for Jim Walter. East on Columbus there are several Latin markets and eateries including La Teresita and Arco Iris. Columbus Drive crosses the Hillsborough River via the Columbus Drive Bridge.

Howell Emanuel "Trai" Donaldson III is a serial killer who was convicted of the 2017 murders of three men and one woman around the Seminole Heights neighborhood of Tampa, Florida. All four victims were shot dead seemingly at random. Prior to his arrest, the media called the killer the Seminole Heights serial killer.
