The Shake is a New York City indie rock band. [1] The band was active from 2005 - 2012. The band was originally formed by Jon Merkin (lead vocals, guitar), Eliad Shapiro (lead guitar, vocals), Jeremy Stein (bass, vocals), and Andrew McNellis (drums). [2] Following McNellis' departure in 2008, Vishal Kumar joined the band as their drummer. Kumar departed in 2009, and was replaced on drums by Daniel Kirschen. Shapiro departed in 2010 to attend Cornell Law School, [3] and was replaced by Mike Serman on lead guitar. The group disbanded in 2012.

The Shake released three LPs and one EP.

For The Shake's third album, The Shake Go Crazy, the band collaborated with record producer, Gregory Lattimer, known for his work on Albert Hammond Jr.'s first solo album, Yours to Keep .

Awards and notoriety

In 2009, The Shake was voted number 32 on The Deli Magazine's best bands in New York City, [7] and #1 best emerging Alternative Rock band in New York. [8] In 2010, The Shake was named one of the top 28 bands of the CMJ Music Marathon by Blackbook Magazine . [9]

The Shake has had its music licensed in several high-profile movies and TV shows, including License to Wed , True Blood , One Tree Hill , 90210 , and Workaholics .

Their debut album, All Elephants, was released in 2010. The record garnered them a position in the CMJ Top 200 charts. In 2011 the band released an EP, Gliese 581g.

Jim Miller is a rock and roll guitarist, singer, teacher, recording artist and band leader in the “jam band” genre’. He has performed with Oroboros and his present group, JiMiller Band. He has also founded and organized several events, including co-founding the Rock & Reggae Festival and founding Lazy Daisy and DeadFall at Nelson Ledges State Park in northeast Ohio. He lives in Cleveland, Ohio.

Tuff Sunshine is an American rock band based in the Bushwick neighborhood of Brooklyn, NY. The band is led by Johnny Leitera, who works with several backing musicians who join him onstage and on tour as well as in the studio. They include notable artists such as Linda Pitmon bassist Turner Stough and founding member Ani Cordero, among others. Drummer Ani Cordero was a founding member and left the band amicably in 2016 to pursue a solo career and still plays occasional shows with the band. Monogold is a three piece psychedelic indie pop band from Brooklyn, New York formed in 2005. Members are guitarist-vocalist Keith Kelly, bassist Mike Falotico and drummer Jared Apuzzo. Their recordings are generally DIY recorded and produced by the band. They have been cited by The Wall Street Journal and Deli Magazine as a band to watch.

Dark Tea is an American, Brooklyn-based music project, founded in 2016 by singer-songwriter Gary Canino. Dark Tea has released two full length albums and an EP.

Jaggery is an American avant-rock band based in Boston, Massachusetts. The band was founded in 2004 in New York City by Mali Sastri with her brother Raky Sastri on drums, later relocating to Boston in 2008. They released their latest album, titled Having It Out with Melancholy, in 2020.
